A little over a year ago I rescued an Alaskan Malamute. Owners left her outside all day as a 4 month old puppy in HOUSTON. The thing was going to die when the weather warmed up (I got her March 09).

Mals and Huskies are very similar in looks, temperamate, etc.

When I got her, I lived in a house. She loved the yard, but I also ran with her (while it was cool) almost every day and took her to the dog part 2-3 times a week. I now live in an apt. I picked the apts right next to the dog park so I'm able to take her there after work a few times a week, or else she would go nuts with built up energy. I have tried many times to leave her out while I'm at work, but about 1 out of 3 times when I come home something will be destroyed. So now she's in the kennel while I'm at work. I am able to do this since I take her to the park in the evening.

They are stubborn dogs, you will have your hands full. If you want an obedient dog, get a lab or something, mals and huskies are very wild dogs and only listen when they feel like it, no matter how well they are trained.

My wife did when I first met her. Very stubborn dog and wasn't overly loving/cuddly if you want that in your dog.

i want a gold lab but they like the household standard . i thought huskies are loving and cuddly? they stick close with the pact and protect.

they are by far the best looking dog out there no homo intended .

im wondering if you get a husky/lab mix it will lose some of its energy but then since its a mix im sure it will have problems in the future but what pets dont...

ALL dogs, large and small, need 2-3 daily walks outside of at LEAST 30 minutes each per day. Not just playtime in a fenced yard or walks long enough for them to do their business. Without enough physical and mental stimulation, they get bored and have too much excess energy to listen to you. For a larger breed like a husky or lab, the importance of exercise is amplified because a they can do a lot more damage if not exercised and trained properly. Not sure how much experience you have with raising dogs, but have the expectation that you will be spending a lot of time walking them no matter what. Bad weather, hot weather, busy at work, hung over from the night before... it doesn't matter. You dog will need the daily walks or else you will both be miserable.

Please don't get a huge dog and then cram it into a crate in your 600sq/ft studio apt. for 14 hours a day.

+1 on the not being lovey comments. Loyal, yes.. cuddly.. not really.

Tell this to my Lab. She's 14/mo old and we don't walk her very often but she rides in the car with me 6-8 hours a day and plays very often with my neighbors Golden Retrievers. So often that we put a gate in to connect our yards.

So walks are def. not a must like you talk of. Enough play time at a park is good enough.

What is a "gold" lab? Either yellow or fox red(still yellow just very amber, almost like a killians in color).

What do you mean by a household standard?
