..::PSI::.. F82 M4 - Bolt In Roll Bar Development

From the beginning, we knew our "Sakhir Inferno" M4 was going to have plenty of exposure to track events, and in keeping with the motorsport theme we began planning a custom roll bar for added rigidity and rollover protection. One of our many stipulations was that the bar had to be completely bolt-in for easy installation and removal. With the launch of the DTM Safety Car M4 earlier this year, our goal was solidified, and shortly after our M4 arrived we set to work.

Using the M4 Safety Car as a reference, we brought in an expert fabricator to create our own version of the competition roll bar. When tackling a project like this, it helps to have experience on your side, and this person has plenty. The fabricator we contacted has a history of building Grand Am, American Le Mans Series, and Rolex Sports Car Series roll cages with other custom fabrication work.

With the SEMA Show rapidly approaching, our M4 is undergoing significant modification, and this race-spec roll bar will be a major component of this project. Stay tuned for more photos and progress!

Nice work! Those welds are just a thing of beauty. Are you going to wrap the bar with anything, or paint it?

I may go for a roll bar this time around. How much will one of these cost?

Once complete we will post up pricing - we are still finalizing all costs involved.

Another teaser...

It certainly could be with a donor car, our initial plans are for the M4 only, but a similar setup is 100% possible on the F80 platform.

NICE WELDS!

Are you going to powder coat, polish or otherwise finish the end product?

Fabrication is now complete!

Modeled after the M4 DTM Safety Car cage with a few PSI tweaks, we incorporated the same gusset structure but smoothed out the joining welds for a cleaner look. Most of the mock up was done in Solidworks to maximize the design and finished look.

It is now at paint and more updates are coming soon!

Our roll bar finally came back from paint! We were excited to see the exact match Sakhir Orange paint gleaming on the newly-welded metal. Installation into the back of the M4 proved to be a quick and simple matter. We have more installed photos coming shortly, so stay tuned!

I'm sure it's very functional and all... But it looks too busy... Too many crosses and x's. I'm a poser ;-) I only want one for looks.

We made it super aggressive, but it can easily be scaled back to (1) X.

Appreciate the kinds words! We were shooting for as close to OEM (DTM Safety Car) as possible, with our own touch added.

Here are more photos to give you a sense of how the roll bar looks installed, especially from outside the car. Everyone we meet seems to love it!
