I need some displays like that for mine. It sucks that they're discontinued but you could probably whip up something similar very easily with some wood and pre-cut glass plates. You could even cut slots with a router so that you don't need the pegs to hold the glass up.

It probably is quite easy to build similar ones but oddly I haven't seen anyone replicate this style yet for commercial sale or person.

UT models were 34 dollars new. But the minute they went out of production prices skyrocketed. My only knock agains Kyosho was that the rotors didn't move, and AutoArt models are just freakin beautiful

Not any more. I sold a dealer edition E30 M3 Roberto Raviglia edition from the 88 DTM series. I should've kept it.

I wish I was collecting around that time. UT prices are pretty soft lately and I suspect they will continue to slide as GT Spirit and AUTOart roll out the Porsche 993 line. The E36 M3s have really taken a hit too.

the dealer edition e36 m3 gtr with the motorsport livery is commanding $500+ at the moment. I should've kept that one

On the outside they're pretty accurate. The insides are mostly plastic on the UT models but the componets are made to scale. Minichamps/Pauls Model Art are more detailed than the UT models as well as AutoArt but not by much. Some of the interiors are in done in suede on the dealer editions which will cost you more. Kyosho is in the level of the Minichamps too. The hinges work but you're not going to see an accurate representation of shock style hinge on most model cars.

If you want the cream of the crop as far as models go you'll have to go with EXOTO or BBR, and those AINT CHEAP

I have a few... actually my wife had about 30 when we met. Didn't take long to make the decision to lock that up.
