Canadians - Mobil 1™ ESP Formula 5W-30 Sold at Canadian Tire

Totally shocked to find this on store shelves in my local Canadian Tire. Even better, on sale from $12.29 to $8.59 a litre until April 24th!:

From Mobil 1:

For anyone that lives in Canada, it's almost impossible to find any engine oil here for our 335d other than the Castrol one at the dealer.

This tells me that the diesels are coming!

Maybe it's just various locations?

Mine was Eglinton/Laird.

Many years. I have read elsewhere that the Mobil 1 ESP has lower volatility than the Castrol, a good thing if you do not have a catch in the PCV system.

Mobile 1 ESP M (5w-40) is sold at Pep Boys for $13/qt. I am going to do an oil test with this. I ran I think 14k miles on the oil.

It probably does not matter but ESP 5w-40 is not BMW LL04. Only the Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30 is LL04.

Nope it's not LL04, but there have been tests from that oil test company saying it's a great oil for our cars. I know it's for ultra low sulfur diesel engines.

Personally, I'd run the 5w-40 in the summer where I live and 5w-30 during the winter.

It's funny how here in Canada they won't market the diesel aspect of the oil unless you look at the back of the bottle where it mentions these diesel/DPF aspects of it. Love the "For Gasoline Engines" sticker on the front though

I do the once a year pep boys special. I think it is 5 qts mobil 1 and your choice of filter for ~$31.99 or somethig like that. I recall talking them into letting me do it 3 times for about $95 bucks before tax. That got me 15 liters (not quarts) of the Mobil1 5W-30 ESP, a BMW filter, a mustang filter, and a Dodge Hemi filter. They were nice to let me pick different filters to shave cost off of other oil changes too. I ended up buying an OEM filter for the 335D though. Subtracting filter costs off, i figure i got the oil for $80. $80/15=$5.33 per liter is not bad at all. I did have to buy one more liter at full retail ($13) to get two changes worth.

I find that when I go with 8 quarts of the Castrol that I always need to top off a few weeks later. 8 quarts is 7.57 L and I know our D takes 7.5 L but it always falls to the "minimum" side of the dipstick.

8 L of Mobil 1 will be better off the bat for my next oil change.

How much does a dealer charge for your supplies? Tischer BMW charges $95 for oil+filter+ free shipping.

I just walked out of the same CT and they've raised the regular price of this oil to $16.79 for 1L before tax!

I'll check out other CT outlets as well to see if this is the norm. Will keep this thread updated.

I didn't want to go that crazy because I'm hoping BMW goes to the Pennzoil Euro formula next.
