You can even put a wing of the size of the Golden Bridge on it... it will be still lightweight:

I never said weight wasn't my concern. I hate that BMW are absolute pigs when it comes to weight. I wanted to get a BRZ instead of my 128, but it financially didn't make sense since as many others have said, they treat them as gold at dealerships, and i needed something much more comfortable for long commuting. If the 128 weighed just 300 pounds less, it'd be a fantastic competitor for the toyoburu's. My next car WILL be a BRZ STI or something of the like. I refuse to ever purchase a car that uses paddles or DCT/automatic transmissions, no 6MT, no purchase. I don't mind turbo'd engines, i just prefer ones that are more rev happy compared to torquey monsters like the n54, which i know is possible with RB turbo's.

Edit: also, faster=/= more fun. I dont care how much faster your DCT 135 is than my MT 128, i will still always have more fun in my 128(just an example). Everybody seems to have this notion that fast=fun, and car manufacturers are delivering things that fit that for sales. It's the consumers fault that light, NA, manual transmission cars are slowly disappearing. BMW especially has seem to forgotten its wonderful 2002/e30 roots.

There's no doubt that a turbo engine and a DSG are faster than a higher revving, lower torque n/a motor with a manual. But it's entirely personal preference as to which is more fun to drive. Some of us continue to prefer the ones that aren't nearly fool proof.

What I'm saying is three simple things:

1) Lightweight shouldn't be only a concern but the FIRST concern for those who seek the ultimate driving experience;

2) The double-clutch transmissions still are manually actuated (by paddles)... only the clutch pedal no longer exists;

3) If you have to sacrifice weight because you need a daily comute sacrifice as less as possible because power will NEVER be a replacement for lightweight.

It doesn't have to do with the fact that's a woman driving , it doesn't have to do with the brakes being ceramic made, it doesn't have to do with the double-clutch transmissions, it doesn't have to do with rear mounted vs front mounted or N/A vs turbocharged engines, it doesn't have to do with racing heritage by itself, it doesn't have to do with the price tag... it doesn't have to do with the HUGE POWER difference... ALL it has to do with is the option for a HUGE WEIGHT difference... one is a 'pig', albeit a beautiful one I reckon (the best looking BMW of today) and the other just a feather in comparison (no need whatsoever for VERY expensive special brakes when 'you are light on your feet') :

Then when a heavy 'pig' is faster we must be in the presence of some kind of miracle... you have to completely rely on the electronics that do the work for you in conjunction to all those GTR's clutches, driveshafts and differentials... the so-called Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All-terrain with Electronic Torque Split (ATTESA E-TS). Now, imagine if the car was just lightweight...

Again, there's NO myth here whatsoever... the 911 simply is the lighter, lower gravity center car. Add to that fact some 'electronic gadgetry' and this will be the end result:

Why don't the other car manufacturers understand this simple fact?!

Lightness odesn't come from anywhere. There are certain things that make cars heavier. And the lighterthe cars become, the more other weight is added, what in turn makes them usually heavier than before.

I'm not sure that I understood your point but it's not admissible that low weight isn't the FIRST priority for a two seater sports car... unless it's not intended to be a great driver's car, let alone for the price of the Jag.

Don't tell me that a turbocharged engine can't sound magical... let alone a 4 cyl. one:

For real. Does anyone know how to block threads? I know you can ignore users so you don't see them post so is there a way to do that for threads?

EDIT: If you add OP to your ignore list the thread pages are actually a normal length.

Agreed.

Tired of this thread and the OP. Takes pics of his dads 1M and pretends to dd it? Gimme a break. Plus his cut/paste knowledge grows tiresome.

Let me see... if that is so, how come do I own a BMW 1M as daily drive AND how come I've been also raving about the new Alfa Romeo 4c?!

I'm not committed to any brand whatsoever... it's ALL about what makes a GREAT driver's car and lightweight, which the 1M isn't, should always be you're starting point regardless of the brand:
