They Scratched It!
Recently picked up my first brand new car 318d sport in alpine white and I'm absolute love with it but the only downside is on delivery day they scratched the boot of it! it is a scratch right where the model badges should be as I asked them to remove this and only can be seen if looked at really closely but its already been back twice for them to say they cant polish it out as its too small and they have offered to replace the boot with a model coming in but this could take up to 8 weeks or longer as they currently have no white 3 series on order. Luckily they have admitted fault on scratching it and are willing to provide a letter stating so.
They have offered the usual crap such as super-guard for it and assured me several times that over its life the scratch will not rust or cause anymore paint issues but I want it fixed because I know its there and will always bug me. They have also offered any accessories I would like but honestly just want them to fix the boot in the first place Any thoughts on what I should be asking for or anyone who has experienced the same? Since it was my 1st brand new car its kind of taken the shine of the whole experience. NWBB

Just reject the car.
Tell them you want a new one. The only real options are new car, new boot. Do not accept any of the others unless in conjunction with either of first 2. Oh and pics as well of course. But you gave the moral high ground and complain to BMW customer support so it's registered. |

i would take any freebies you can, i suggest free 5 year servicing and then wait the 8 weeks for the new boot. Yes, annoying that you'll have to wait but its only 2 months and it will be a pristine new boot rather than a spray job and you'll have free servicing or whatever you choose. In 3 Months, you'll be grinning.
You cant really reject the car because of one scratch in my opinion. |

If more people kicked up a fuss we all might get better cars. Just by taking the stance of rejecting a car, puts dealer on back foot and means BMW UK is involved. Also, some dealerships (various manufacturers are crap). |

Thanks all I will try and get a picture of it tonight but it's pretty small maybe no bigger than a 5p in length but gone straight through the laquer. I was thinking of asking for the servicing and waiting for the boot or is there any accessories anyone could reccomend?
Really annoying because they had the car a week before pickup and was requested to be de badged but only done after I noticed when pickup it was left on after the told me it's only a little fishing wire they use and I see a tech with a pallet knife! Suppose only good thing is they've admitted fault |

Hard to say without a pic but from what you describe I'm not sure it's that big a deal? Yes, can totally understand that it has somewhat spoiled the experience, but assuming they rectify it then it shouldn't be a too much of an issue.
It certainly isn't worth rejecting the entire car for, as then you'd just have to go through all the hassle of getting and waiting for another. Alpine white is a solid colour and should be relatively easy for a smart repair to be done such that it can't be seen. I would see if you can get them to do that and whatever else they come up with in terms of goodwill. Within a few months when you've picked up a kerbed wheel, or a car park ding, or some stone chips, and you realise it's no longer a new car it'll all put it in to perspective I think.

Mine came new with a dent in the rear wheel arch. It was no big deal, I drove it away and the dealers picked it up a few weeks later to repair the damage. I was left with a nicely repaired car fully valeted with fuel in the tank, more than happy.

It will be a very very very very hard fight to get BMW to accept a rejection of the car, particularly as it looks like a dealer mistake from what you said.
It took me 2 months to get a car rejection accepted by BMW - due to a damaged door, damaged trim in 4 areas and terrible swirl marks on every panel. It involved 2 approved body shops, two dealers and BMW's own technical people. Not a pleasant experience. |

Get some freebies, wait for the white boot to arrive. It's only a scratch the size of a 5p for 8 weeks... Let it go and enjoy your new car |

Take the new boot and some freebies.
I have learned that plastic strapping bands for boxes/pallets are great for de-badging. They are out of their minds to put a box cutter anywhere near paint. |

Or heat them up with a hair dryer and use dental floss. That's how i've always done it.

IMO I think you're making this into something way bigger than it needs to be. No one will notice a tiny scratch and it will get sorted soon.
I had a similar thing happen when I collected my car. The steering wheel had a tiny scratch/defect but I didn't notice it until after I had driven off. I went straight back to my dealer (after just 3 miles) and pointed it out to them. A couple of weeks later they swapped it for another one. Sorted! Just enjoy your new car and let it go |
