I don't think this really applies to the OP's situation though.

There are only 2 reasons one would ever want to go to a community college:

1) You didn't get accepted into a major 4 year university/college despite being able to pay or willing to assume the student loan debt

2) You can't afford (or are unwilling to assume the debt for) 4 years of college tuition and so you try and stem the cost by taking your general education courses at community college for a fraction of the price

Neither case applies to the OP. From the sounds of it, he's already been accepted to the colleges he mentioned, and moreover he has full (or near full) tuition scholarships at most of them.

Yeah I'm in agreement with you. CC doesn't really fit my situation and plans. Even if I had to pay full at U of MD, it would only cost $25k a year. My parents could easily pay for that since they make $300k combined. If I feel cost is a problem at private schools that's where I'll go. It also wouldn't be possible for me to major in Econ and be prepared for med school in 4 years...if I even got into med school with 2 years of CC.

While I haven't been accepted to any yet (haven't applied), I do think I will be accepted to most that I apply to. I know where I stand SAT and GPA wise, so I'm only applying to 1 "reach" school. I want to be above average at the school I go to and that's how I stand at Miami, Maryland, etc. I'm not the kid that's gonna waste $1,000 in app fees to apply to every single top 15 school.

I do appreciate all the varied suggestions though.

BA/BE Mechanical Engineering and Spanish double major at Dartmouth College.

I'm fluent in Spanish so getting that major was pretty easy and I figured I could use it if I wanted to become a teacher. If I had to do it over again though, I would concentrate more on the engineering side since Dartmouth's BE program is 5 years, but you can do it in 4 years if you take enough classes.

I agree with those who say the name doesn't really matter. It's all about experience and who you know. I got my first engineering job because my best friend (not related to Dartmouth) put in a good word at his firm.

There were many more doors opened for me out of school because I went to UW Madison and was a Badger compared to what I had through who I knew. This may not be true for every field, however.

If you want to do medicine, think about Johns Hopkins, it's by Georgetown but its a more prominent med school. Georgetown is great for law.

I can't get into Hopkins and Georgetown is kind of a stretch. :[ I'll be shooting for Hopkins Medical though! I'll be fine with any MD school though tbh, any US MD school is worth going to.
