The problem with speed limits is that they are too low

Food for thought- just don't try to use these arguments the next time you're pulled over:

A speed of 70-80mph on the highway isn't in and of itself the most dangerous part of speeding - it's the differential between the slowests and the fastest, and the stupidity of most drivers in their lane choice. If I'm doing 80 (and that's slow for me), it's the asshole doing 45 that pulls into the left (passing) lane that's dangerous.

We'll never see higher limits, as it would cut into the revenue gov't receives from tickets.

Unfortunately correct.

I got a camera ticket from a ghetto city (E. Cleveland) a couple months ago and had the court date yesterday 4 months later. I do a lot of work for the counties and such not that I was expecting a free pass just for that. Anyways I was doing 34 in a 25, the camera is a mobile one and was setup on the last block of the ghetto cities district, a block from there the 25 jumps to 35. If I were going faster then 10 over I wouldn't even fought the ticket but since it was under I had to go. Well the judge told me if I was going 33 he would have let me off. So I came back at him for him to explain the difference between 33 and 34 and if that picture shows him something like me talking on the phone, me driving erratically, etc. He didn't say anything. I then turned to the uniformed officer in the office that has to be there and asked him if he would have even thought to pull me over if he were driving behind me and he said nothing either. So I then said, there is obviously no difference, the difference is you can say whatever you just want I still have to pay the $95 for your revenue generator not your safety device, then thanked him and left.

You should have asked for an immediate dismissal since the person, in this case a camera was not present to cross examine, the person who pulled the picture can not testify to the fact you were speeding since they did not have first hand knowledge it is all hearsay.

To the other point, speed limits is not about public safety... and as I read in one case law about speeding the judge who agreed with the person who claimed the limits were set too low and the guy was very good driver, the judge said and this is so true...

Because as American we have right to travel the most common method to travel these days is by cars the government if force to set regulations that address the least experience driver on the road
So, because they can not limit who gets a license they create laws to deal with the idiot and the rest have deal with it and pay.

I've always viewed that the slower drivers were more of a menace and cause of accidents than anything. I'm not saying driving 100 everywhere on US freeways is safe though. Our roads suck for one, and the people that are given licenses are morons.

I find the far right faster than the middle lane unless coming up to a exit or ramp on a 3 lane highway...

And the far left left lane is slightly faster than the middle lane due to the assholes holding up the left lane...that is until i come up behind them and pull flash-to-pass high beams on them...
I've noticed most of the assholes in the left lane with CT plates are least likey to move to the right...

Not only should the speed limits on major roadways be raised; but the driving age should be raised to 18. Also, make the driving test more stringent, and increase the cost of a driver's license.

And a special test and license for SUVs, that costs more.

Far right is usually filled with vehicles going 40 mph.

This CT asshole never moves to the right since that's never an issue.

The eastern CT drivers are much better than western CT, but western CT is much better than NY, MA, or RI.

Most of my family lives in western CT. If you ever see a 50 y/o blonde lady flying by you in a 2002 silver M5 that's prolly her. My Uncles favorite term when I'm up there and we take the M5 or 911 for a spin is, "good ahead, let her breathe"

How about this morning at 4:45am on the Saw Mill Parkway spilt to the hutch..., a black licion town car with CT plates was riding in the far left lane with no one around other than me behind him flashing him 4 times...

He's probably looking in the rear view mirror thinking, "doesn't this idiot know you can pass in any lane on a 3-lane or more highway in CT? why's he flashing his lights"

That, and if it's a Lincoln town car, it's probably livery or an old person, and very likely they do NOT have a CT driver's license.

roads and drivers are defintely worse in the east coast. no doubt about it. at least in CA u have huge multiple lanes to pass the stupid drivers. here its terrible.

and i agree with 777. in mild traffic, all the morons are driving 50 in the left and middle lanes, usually parallel for miles length. i go in the right to pass.

Why so? What is it specifically about driving an "SUV" that you think should require a special license? You wouldn't want to have to have a special test and license - that costs more - for driving a 300+ hp car would you?

A lot of ideas/points are valid. But I have one that trumps them all.

Open comms for the road. If you could send someone even 1 message while driving it would benefit everyone alot more and wouldn't be intrusive.

"hey, get out of the left lane"

"Hey, the light is green"

"hey, your gas cap is open"

"hey, sober up who do you think your fooling?"

Also, I would appreciate it if I had something wrong that I didn't know about and someone was able to tell me. (Hasn't happened yet but... )

Red light runners who've hit me, dumb bitches who cant notice 6 lanes of traffic in both directions stoped with a family of deer crossing the road, idiots who continue running red lights right in front of me.......the list goes on. Im just blown away at some of the things i see happen on the road. Its scray knowing that theres such retards out there and that its not in your hands to prevent them from causing you to get in an accident. Dumb pr*cks and c*nts
