Restaurants in NY

Hello folks,

I am looking for advise on a nice restaurant to take my wife for her birthday whilst we are in NY in August.

I have found the following, in no particular order, and they seems to be style we like: DanielNYC, David Bouley, Le-Bernadin, Jean-Georgis, Annisa.

Can the locals please shed any light on these or any similar.

Also looking at Eleven Madison but that would be a big maybe, mind you we did take our 13 son to Quay which is the best restaurant in Australia and in the top 50 of the world.

Also, if anyone has a view on the Intercontinental or the Sheraton at Times Square I would also appreciate that.

Thanks in advance!

Be safe.

Eleven Madison Park is extraordinary as is Per Se. Both are a big step above the restaurants you mentioned in both food and service. If your son is well behaved, you'll be fine at either restaurant but Per Se is much quieter so keep that in mind

Another one to consider is the chefs table at Brooklyn fare. It's fantastic but unless your son has a taste for raw fish, he probably won't enjoy the first few courses

PM me if you want more suggestion

With a kid, i recommend ABC Kitchen. Not quite the same level as Eleven Madison, but still an excellent meal and not as stuffy.

Thanks Guys,

My "kid" is 13 and is very well behaved and has been going to fine restaurants with us since he was born.

Yes, my son does love sashimi as well as things like steak tartar and has a very developed palate for his age. When we asked what he wanted for his last birthday he immediately said he wanted to go to Quay (best in Oz) for dinner and he did a cooking class at another top restaurant. He will be fine!

I did look at Per Se and I thought both it and Eleven Madison looked a bit "stuffy".

Thanks again guys!

Be safe.

Based on the restaurants you enjoyed in the past, you it appears as though you like French inspired cooking with a little bit of experimenting.

Although I think Daniel is the most over rated restaurant, I do love his other restaurants. Check out Boulud Sud and Cafe Boulud. Both have incredible food and not nearly as stuffy

Jean Georges' Nougatine has a pretty good menu and also a bit more relaxed. There is usually some crossover on the menu with Jean Georges since they share the same kitchen.

Per Se is very quiet inside and as such, makes it feel stuffy. Eleven Madison may look like that too but because of the room, it's actually loud and you can be more relaxed.

Forget about my last suggestion for the chefs table because it's so small that you almost feel bad talking above a whisper

I live in NJ and love going to NYC for dinner often. My favorite is El Mulino. Look it up. You won't regret it.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, looks like we have quite a few to go to.

We are in New York for two weeks so we'll get to a few of them I'm sure.

In doing some reading it seems as though there is more of a dress code for restaurants in the States?

We aren't so "formal" out here, I have been to some of the best restaurants in the country and generally wear a collared shirt and a nice (Armani etc) pair of jeans and have never been out of place.

I can't recall ever "having" to wear a jacket and tie out for dinner.

Thoughts?

Add a sport coat to your shirt & jeans combo and you'll be fine 99.9% of the places in NYC. You'll get hassled about wearing sneakers more than any other wardrobe issue, so as long as you're not I doubt you'll have any problems.

Stayed at the Four Seasons. Great views of Central Park. Not cheap at $1,200 a night but well worth it. Also had dinner at Del Frisco's. Best steak I've had by far

Eleven Madison is my favorite restaurant. That's where I would go if I were you. After that, using only your list....

Jean-Georges, Le Bernadin, Bouley, Annisa, Daniel.

If it were my list: Eleven Madison Park, Atera, Per Se.

Le-Bernadin is an excellent choice, my company often has dinners here for board members and it never disappoints.
