Interior Refresh - New DIY

Well, I finally finished my project to update/refresh the interior on my '07 e90 335i, Dakota Beige, steptronic, and posted a DIY here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1024270. This project involved wrapping my wood grain trim and adding black accents throughout:

- installing new black OEM carpet mats
- wrapping the wood grain trim with 3M 1080 Matte Charcoal
- wrapping the OEM steptronic shifter in gray carbon fiber
- replacing the OEM lighted plastic shifter panel with an alcantara manual shift boot
- recoloring plastic door trim pieces in satin black (speaker grilles, window switches, door handle recesses)
- replacing the door pulls in OEM black
- dying the armrests black
- dying the console cover/armrest black
- dying the hand brake boot black
- dying the seatback nets black

Here is the end result:

Ditto! That's the problem I have with mine. So much tan/beige it's mind numbing, but I still love the 'ole gal just the same.

A thin membrane of veneer glued to metal which is glued to plastic. By that measure my IKEA furniture is heirloom quality lol.

I should have sanded all that thick gloss polymer coating off, then finished it with several coats of tung oil. Dang I miss that real wood.

Wow, looks great! Thanks for posting the detailed DIY.

In general I like my beige interior, but would be nice if some of the trim pieces were black add a little contrast to the interior. I had been thinking about just changing the plastic door trim pieces to black (speaker grilles, window switches, door handle recesses). I may have to do that now using this helpful DIY info.

Still looks better than the wood.

Great refresh, OP. Plans for Sport wheel? Would really set it off. I plan to do some of these for the handles / steering wheel trim soon.

+1. Wood trim is lame and feels like an old geezer's interior.

Why stop at a regular sport wheel since OP would need to change out the airbag to upgrade? Get an m-sport or //m steering wheel!

I'd settle for any of the above! That would be a great upgrade. I have a hard time justifying a grand for a new steering wheel. Maybe one day if I run out of other things to spend money on.
