Not looking for that new/expensive of a 1 series and I'm not looking to take any "hit" on a car I just bought a week ago. If a convenient deal comes up I'll take it, if not I'll just keep driving the 3. It will be easier to resell down the line vs a 1 anyway and I only plan on keeping whatever car 1-2 yrs tops.

If I had an Elise and Mini, I'd gladly welcome a slightly larger vehicle. The back seat on the 3 is so much more comfortable than the 1. I'd try getting used to it.

I absolutely see your point, however we rarely if ever use the backseats and I certainly never use the backseat personally. My friends can deal with being a little cramped if we drive them to dinner

My thinking is that I'd rather drive a car I'm in by myself 90% that is more fun than to make someone else more comfortable for the rare occasions I have more than 1 passenger. I was fine dd'ing the S2000 as far as size/room etc goes, it was the sound, slightly harsh ride etc that made me do the swap.

That aside, the 3 does have some nice features that the 1 does not have. But I do like the looks of the 1 and relative rareness compared to the 3 series. I'm not going to do a swap if I'll lose any money, more or less looking to do it if it's a lateral move with no $ out of my pocket. I don't dislike the 335i Coupe, I just don't love it.

If I had the Elise and Mini, I'd take the 3 over the 1 any day. Love the extra bit of luxury and room it offers over the 1. I don't have several vehicles, so I picked what I thought is the best all-rounder.

All I'm saying is I'd give it a little more time before rushing out of the 3 and into a 1. I've logged many hours on both cars and they are not vastly different as far as performance and overall driving feel goes.

I have an elise and had the same feeling about the "bigness" of the 3, so I know what you mean (got a 135 even though it's a little less practical for us as a result). But that was a test drive, not living with it for a while so don't know how the relationship with it would have evolved.

It has gotten a bit better in the last week or so, the car just feels longer and a bit wider than it should be. Is the shifter/clutch the same in the 1 and the 3? I'm not only considering the 1. Really wanted a Cayman S as well and almost pulled the trigger prior to this 335 purchase so I may look into that. Also a few cars I like that were previously unrealistic budget wise have come in to play if I sell the 3 and the Elise (Nissan GT-R for example).

How do you buy a car then have buyers remorse a week later? Sounds like you didnt test drive the car enough.

You're absolutely right. Test drove both for about 15 minutes each, wasn't long enough I guess.

I'd start by installing the clutch bumpstop. Dirt cheap mod (< $15) that shortens the clutch lever travel. If the shifter throw is too long, look into a short shift kit. I have the BMW performance SSK and I feel that it is the perfect balance between throw length and notchiness.

Have a clutch stop on the way as well as a 330 ZHP shift knob. If that still doesn't work I may get the $63 shorter shift level from Tischer. Also plan to get a gutted CDV or just delete it. The transmission needs so much work just to feel decent compared to the S2000.

Haven't found a 1, Cayman S, or anything else to buy in the immediate future so I'm just going to keep the car. Thanks for all the advice.

Glad to hear you decided to keep the 3. The trans can be addressed with the CDV delete and SSK. Won't be the same feels as the S2K but a considerable improvement. Enjoy!!!

If you are interested, there is a meet tonight in plano. Check the southwest board on e90post. I'll let you check out the 1's transmission for comparison.
