they are both nice cars, i drove in a 2008 range rover sport before i liked it a lot, and drove a 09 cayenne gts for about a month that was a sick ride.

Do you want to pay a lot out of warranty, or would you rather pay a lot out of warranty? If you want to pay a lot out of warranty, I'd get either. I have driven both though, and would get the Range Rover over the Porsche. While the Porsche is nice, I prefer both the ride and looks of the Range Rover Sport.

I would take the Range for better inclement weather performance. I'm drinking the "Top Gear" kool-aid though, so I wouldn't know what would actually be better. I just know when I do get an SUV, it'll be a Range.

I love the Canyenne and all but I'd assume the Range Rover is more family accommodating .

I love the looks of the Range Rover most likely my next purchase will be a Range Rover. However I would never buy a Range Rover out of warranty the reliability of the Roveris horrendous you will not only be familiar with your local Range Rover repair shop you will be invited to every wedding birthday and celebration that every mechanic there celebrates that's how familiar you will become with your repair shop of choosing

Summary: Rovers are more reliable than you think. Super nice. But not something I'd personally drive daily coming from a 335.

Full Story:
I disagree with the comments that Land Rovers are not reliable. I used to think the same thing, but we've owned two Rovers over the last six years (an LR3 and now a FFRR - "full fatty Range Rover") and they have been surprisingly reliable. Have we had issues? Sure, but all very minor and wouldn't have been too bad to pay out of pocket. Once BMW and then Ford had them, their reliability seriously improved.

In my opinion, Rovers are great cars - they are tanks (read: safe). They are also relatively exclusive, look timeless (the full size Range Rover has only been redesigned 3 times in something like 30 years) and unbeatable off road or in inclement wether (search YouTube for some videos and I'm sure you'll be sold ). There is also a very strong community (similar to E90Post when you do need help).

The drawbacks? They depreciate like a rock. But if you are buying used/salvage it shouldn't matter. Here's the kicker one though - I HATE driving it. It is HUGE and, especially at our altitude, is slow. Since it is my wife's car (and she LOVES it), I don't sweat it, but I couldn't drive it daily. When we go on long road trips it is awesome though.

Do you need 7 passenger seating? The rover would fit that bill if needed. They both cost a ton of upkeep with Air Suspension and gearing. They both have great purpose on or off road.

I would get a Touareg v10 if you could find it over the Cayenne.

Range Rover would be the better family car with more room in it - Porsche more fun to drive!
