Engagement Ring's Size vs Clarity

So I just bit the bullet and got a decent ring. I wanna know from your experience which do women prefer size or clarity/cut.

Well, you said bit the bullet..so, I'll say size is what matters....but remember, if you put too much into it, it is a pain in the ass to get rid of later.

Let your chick pick it out. Believe me it will spare you the headache. My chick got a Vera Wang ring, saved myself a lot of bs and time.

This is it

Price went up a bit.

My pops is a jeweler. From what I've seen/heard, 90% of his customers don't spend more than $5k on an engagement ring. Granted, the same ring would have a 25% markup at any store like Tiffany's, Jared's, etc.

Do yourself a favor and go to a reputable manufacturer in your area. My brother in law had bought my sister an $8k Tiffany ring. My dad made him return it and made the same exact ring with a slightly better quality stone for $6k.

size matters. Name brand is nice too. I had her at the red Cartier box before she even opened it. She's not even much of a jewelry person. But her friends seem to be jealous of the name brand.

I agree. A industry selling worthless rocks is making a killing on women's stupidity and the fact that even brilliant man will give in for the sake of getting some steady vagina.

There should be a disclaimer when you buy this crap.

Diamonds are forever but your marriage will probably last 5 years.

Try buying the ring online, you WILL save a couple thousand. I made this mistake myself. However, it turned out ok for me in the end because the sales person was quite helpful and I would probably have been long lost without her.
If I could do it over again, I'd go straight to brilliantearth or bluenile. Both have stellar return policies if you decide you don't want/like the ring, unlike most brick and mortar shops. And the online stores still do payment plans/ layaway if you want to go that route.

I owe about 60k in student loans so there was no way i was going to go all out. I got some ultra clean vvs stone's that are brilliant, but size wise comparable to lower clarity they are smaller. I have 30 days to figure this out.

Well, I went on Bluenile.com to price out a classic style ring and it was about$9k total for 1.21 carats, F color, VVS2, ideal cut in a platinum setting. That is dirt cheap. A similar ring runs about $15k at Tiffany's and sky rockets from there. I like Tiffany's but you do pay for the name.

Also, you could save a lot of money by going with between sizes. Example, instead of 1 carat, go with .96. Almost impossible to tell the difference between .96 and 1.00 and it's a lot cheaper.

My ideal ring would be closer to 1.5 carat, D color, VVS1, and ideal cut.

Also, congrats on taking the next step OP! Hope she says yes!

I purchase my girl a doron merav ring and just by asking casual question and checking what she normally wear I was able to customize the ring to something she likes and that I can afford. Just remember whatever ring you get her also needs to have a similar or matching band for the big day.

The ring really won't (shouldn't) matter. Especially after a while. I assume she knows about your student loans, etc. yes, a giant, perfect rock will get oohs and ahhs from the friends, but that is temporary. Also, the stone itself can always be upgraded later, if that's what you guys want to do. Look at them and pick one that speaks to you. Don't ask her to pick it (in my opinion). This is a symbol of your love for her, not any other ring. She can pick all the other ones. Yes, it's only a symbol, but symbols matter to some people. Make what it symbolizes special and try not to worry so much about the ring. Also, congratulations.

Yep.

Friend of mine just asked my dad to make his girl's engagement ring. Strict budget of $2000.

Here's what my dad made for him:
View post on imgur.com

Surrounding stones are all real diamonds, center stone is a Swarovski stone. My friend went that route in case she wants to get an actual diamond down the road swapped out (but probably not). Ordered, made within 10 days or so and shipped out to Texas overnight.

Same ring would probably cost $3000+ anywhere else.

To spend up to 11000k bucks just for an engagement ring is ridiculous. Imo you dont show the value of love and respect with the size of a ring.
In my case a simple and very inconspicuous ring had done the show, got it from Amazon for round about 200 bucks and my funnier looking half was absolutely pleased with it.
I know her very well and was quite sure that she would prefer a more functional ring which isnt prevent her from doing all daily things including wearing gloves at motorcycle riding.
The most surprise for her was my offer of marriage, she'd never awaited it after the couple of years we were together.
Depends at least of your taste and the more of the thickness of your moneybag
