Buying HDTV on eBay reliable?

I was wondering if this seller on eBay is reliable. One thing that got me is on his listing it says the refresh rate is 120Hz where on other sites such as Amazon list it as 240Hz. So my question here is, is this seller reliable, is the 120Hz just a typo, or am I looking at a completely different TV. They have the same model number and maybe I am just unaware that Sony uses the same model number for new and previous models. The model number is KDL-46NX720. Links below for the eBay and Amazon links. The guy is a Top-Rated-Seller but I heard shady things about them.

Seriously dude..don't try to save a buck like that...if you buy from a reputable online electronic store your saving taxes...that's not bad. Everyone loves B&H PHoto. Some ebay crook..hells no too risky.

Of course I know reputable sites are better. Just wanted some insight on people's experience on ebay because if it is reliable wouldnt it be a better choice? Obviously if it isnt or I dont get a response my first choice would be a reputable site. Thanks for your insight btw

I bought one used hdtv off ebay 3 years ago and i am still using it until now with no problem.
Buying from ebay is all about luck, but now i am thinking to get a projector and ebay would still be my first choice.

I would buy from a legit store that does business on ebay. Just keep in mind that most ebay sellers dont provide prepaid shipping labels if their is something wrong with the product. Sending a tv back on your dime could be expensive..

There is a difference between a TV with a 120Hz refresh and a 240Hz refresh. The original links you posted have 404'd, but it is possible you were looking at two different TV's...

The 240Hz would be more expensive. They often say they have "smooth motion" technology or some crap. I find the 240Hz refresh rate LCD's a little odd to view, it just seems like something is a bit off to me. Just my personal opinion. The 120Hz is just fine.

Fry's is selling that model for $1,799, and listing it as 120Hz.

Buying anything 'on eBay' depends solely on the seller. There are individual sellers who illegally funnel returned/warrantied goods which may work but have flaws of some sort. There are also legitimate businesses which use eBay as ad space and provide as secure transaction/warranty/delivery as ordering it from Best Buy.

Feedback doesn't tell the whole story as some sellers have multiple accounts with built up feedback (before a large expensive sale).

eBay/PayPal usually side with the buyer, so if you want to save a few bucks and don't mind the potential headache of having to go a few weeks while a (possible) issue is resolved, it's not a bad front to buy things. Works well for some goods, less so for others.

just my experience, feel that so many people have stereotyped eBay to something which it is not.

I don't really get the point of higher frequencies like 240Hz etc. The source isn't usually that high frequency anyway. So the TV does extra processing to make up extra frames in between? I can imagine that working sometimes and not so well other times.

Avoid risk and buy from Amazon or Newegg. You won't be saving that much on eBay to justify the risk. Online sellers like Amazon or Newegg are cheaper than brick-and-mortar at least, and they often have deals going on.

Not all eBay sellers are crooks. I own an eBay business and I like to think of myself as an honest seller. Right now I am liquidating a golf shop, everything is brand new, never used, exactly the same as you find in any golf shop around the country, the prices are lower but it doesn't mean the merchandise is a lower quality. The same would apply if I were liquidating a local electronics shop.

I had great luck buying an HDTV from Amazon. Their delivery process is 1st rate.

The delivery guy gets a cell phone from Amazon, and they have to go thru a check list with you for proper installation while on the phone with Amazon. Amazon will then ask them to hand the phone to you where they will request a verbal confirmation from you that everything is to your satisfaction.

Much better service in home than any of the retail stores or local ma/pa shops.

Yep; it's all in the rules. I've sold tons of stuff and have never lost cash in a deal when a buyers try to scam.
