Wow so many people taking a harmless ad so seriously.... Like stated previously, its intention was to get people to notice them, and to consider them a true peer of BMW and Mercedes.

...and look at what we have here because of it.... A 9 page thread giving them nothing but attention. Looks like their plan is working. That being said, any enthusiast would have scoffed at the fact that they were basing their entire argument on three C&D reviews, which means nothing. But it is clever advertising aimed at the general public, and I bet it's doing really good things for them. They do build good cars, and they are right there on par with BMW and Mercedes. Another thing I've noticed is that they tend to be right-on with their stereotypes of other brand owners... Gives me a good laugh; makes me think about a lot of you guys.

One of the first things I thought after that commercial was about how brands will lose money to bring a car like the R8 into production. I don't believe Audi did lose money on the project, but it's really effective to have a flagship like that, even if the project is expected to be in the red at best.

All in all, there's nothing wrong with Audis today. They are good cars. That really can't be argued, and mention of carbon buildup is ridiculous, as many of the owners here are running into that issue themselves, and it's going to be an issue for anyone who keeps this car for a good period of time. The DI system will assure that. Just seafoam the damn thing and you're good.

If anything, maybe Audi stealing sales will force BMW to give its owners fully-baked instead of half-baked solutions (*cough* HPFP *cough*). Competition can and will benefit the consumer. Period.

At present such an ad would be tricky for BMW to answer back, but if they did I would imagine it would go something like this, 'yeah 'Check mate' but only it the US '

How 'bout the reported release of the e92 M3 CSL against this B8 RS5? That would be a very nice comparo.

lol there appears to be a page 10 to this thread but I can't seem to access it.
Lets see if posting a reply helps.

edit: I guess not. page 9 it is lol.

re: RS5 vs M3 I doubt the M3 CSL will fair any better.
The RS5 trumps the normal M3 so badly not even CSL can save it..

this comment was on the money too

I dunno, place in the top 4 at the ring, since audi and Porsche are one now and kinda dominate there. Or… compete in lemans again and win there.
Wait… wait.. marketing, nm. Keep aping audi’s bit in response, that’ll work, just like you did when you went with an identical displacement V8 for the m3.

Love BMWs, real bmws, I'd take any 5 series over any A6 in a heartbeat, but BMW's lost their way for the most part and resting on their laurels and hoping they'll make headway with marketing, meh. X6, 5 series GT, lack of an R8 competitor or real new X3, 1 series portlyness, etc etc… yeah… less mud, more back on task. Audi’s made every bit as much progress as bwm’s made none sitting on the status quo plateau they’re on (and regressing in the way of the x6 et-al).

Interesting idea that, I as much as you would welcome such a thing, but when BMW decided to just give the M3 minor suspension and DSC tweaks it became clear that BMW are preoccupied with getting their M5 to the showroom and developing their next proper M3. I think what BMW have done is a damage limiting exercise with the Competition Package, they probably decided that rather than trying to compete on a figures/stats battle they are going to play the emotion card which the M3 has in buckets, it pulls the heart strings when you are really on it better than any of the competition.

But is that enough.

Probably not anymore, since they focused on interior appointments at the same time (and jacking up the weight in the process).
