Suggestions: Point & Shoot for Macro Work

I'm looking for a P&S camera that does good macro shots. We have a Nikon with a macro lens and ringflash at work and need a second camera to take out into the field. Mostly shooting machine parts of 12 to 1/8 inch in size. Would like rechargeable battery and zoom features.

Any suggestions for what to buy or avoid is appreciated. Thanks

Ah, yes :P

I have one of the earlier models of the Sony T70. I think it's a T50 or something. Macro on that is incredible, down to the threads on clothing and the valleys in your fingerprints.

Sony point and shoot cameras are horrible. I don't recommend them at all.

I've been doing some reading/research, it seems like the sony and cannon p&s cameras are rated well. Let me throw one more parameter out, it can be a mid size camera, it doesn't have to be one of the compacts/ultra-compact units. The goal is to have an all-in-one camera in an easy to transport package.

I still would like to hear you thoughts and opinions, nothing beats hands on experience. Thanks

You clearly need to get your hands on Canon's G9/G10. Its going to be my backup to my 5D. Performance wise, I would now pick it up in an instant.
