As I live in Tucson, I just would like to take a moment to think and pray for congresswoman Giffords who if you didn't know already was shot today by a lone gunman during a political rally in Tucson at the Safeway Ina and Oracle roads. This is a terrible tragedy and pretty much shut down Tucson today.

America's pathetic legal system will now waste money giving this guy a trial and then piss away tax money on keeping him alive in prison until he dies at a rate of $50k/year. When it would be much more cost and resource efficient to put a 20¢ bullet in his head right away.

I think life in solitary confinement with zero social interaction and not being allowed out of the cell at all will do a much better job punishing this person then the death penalty.

Anyway, this is disgusting. I don't care about your political leanings and how you may have disagreed with her ideals. You don't try to kill them.

Not knowing anything about her campaign and the one against her, if the stuff in those links is close to representing the real thrust of the campaign, then that is just very uncool.

Since we are speculating on the motivation of the shooter, as a "blue-dog democrat" what about Giffords support of border security?

Hopefully she will recover. Without more info, we can't know whether shot in the head necessarily means the bullet passed through her brain. Maybe it shot off her face. Do bullets usually pass through both sides of a skull? Or enter one side and scatter on the other? Passing through would seem to cause much less damage.

It will probably be a relatively long time before the motivation of the shooter is released.

If it did go through her brain, if she was still able to function, what would you think of a brain-damaged congressperson continuing to represent you? I would have to question the fitness... even if I didn't question that beforehand.
