Jailbreak for the iphone

Anyone educated on this process to hack/unlock the iphone. There are rumors all over the internet now about unlocking the iphone. And i will getting mine at xmas and really dont want to go over o at&t, like many other people. I have been reading articles, processes, and reviews how to do it. any experience out there???

Probably easier just to pay someone to do it. Bad answer I realize, but still.
