Junior Prom/Party on a Yacht??

its not about luck...i go to a public school...my school has $0 for my Junior Prom, and since im class president, im in charge of choosing the venue then raising ALL the money to have our Prom take place there...so between now and may, im gonna have to raise $4000 dollars...then the students coming will have to pay about $70 each to buy tickets..so yeah, luck has nothing to do with any of this...

oh, sorry...i didnt know you were talking about the car, i thought you were talking about the Prom! lol

when i graduated in 06 we had a party on i believe the royal princess yacht in new york city, was lots of fun, but prob would be alot of work and extremely expensive if you tried to raise the funds yourself. but good luck to ya, hope that helps a little. should be fun

i may, looking now. again it was alot of fun u should do it, but i think i read something about $4,000 and my guess is it would be alot more than that, could be $20,000 to have a fully chartered yacht out of NYC for a few hours, travel around NYC see the sights, and what not, but it's def worth it

A yacht for one night to accomodate 150-200ppl?

I'd say around $80k would cover all the costs for one night.

Not sure if that's even sensible for most schools unless it's a private university or something similar.

$4000 is nowhere near enough if you want it on a yacht. My senior prom was $120K and it was fundraised for 3 years straight and it was at a nice place, and nowhere near as expensive as renting a yacht for a night.

Yacht = $3000 - $9000 (depending on what we choose)
Food/Drinks = $25 Per Person
docking fee = $500
service charge = $500
tax = 20%

subtotal = $8700 -14700 (im sure other charges will arise, so lets go all out and add $3000) the most expensive that it could be is $18,000...

lets say 150 people come, and we charge $70 per ticket...this = $10,500

18, 000
- 10, 500

=$7, 500...

lets say we throw 2 dances and each gets us $2000, which = $4000...

$7,500
- 4000

= $3,500

i will try to get local businesses to donate money to our school, because my school has been a part of the community longer than any other...also, the program i take (I.B.) requires that each student undertake the task of completing 150 hours of community service over their last 2 years at the school which will also be mentioned...on top of this, there will be other fundraisers held to account for any extra money that may be needed...

Plus added liabilities if you charter it. So realistically you are def looking at much more than $9,000 and what about transportation to and from the boat? who is gonna drive through NYC on a prom night?

It was a lot of stuff to be honest. Some overdone (chocolate fountains, a $6000 DJ, etc.) but most of it was necessary. You really don't know just how much something costs in total until you really try to get it done and make the calls.

I was an elected official on the Class Council and we had to scramble at the end to make ends meet (we were about $4,000 short with two months to go). Our location was really nice though, it cost about $15,000 to rent out the place for the night.

It apparently wasn't just my town or HS either. A neighboring town's prom cost around $85K and it was considered "poorly" fundraised.

Every little thing adds up, and I'm really curious to see how much this night on the yacht will cost at the end.

OK, here is the exact cost and breakdown, assuming your school is tax-exempt:

$98.50
19.70 service charge of 20%
$118.20 per guest
$17,730 for a group of 150 guests

NY Dock Fee is $1,100

If this is not a tax-exempt event for your school, then 8.375% NY tax or $8.25 would be added to each person, making it:
$126.45 per guest
$18,967.41 for a group of 150 guests

Besides prom being a night that is just for girls.. Come on its an all girls event, being a guy at prom just sucks the $$$ out of you and we would rather be drinking in a T shirt or watching any sporting event..

I think proms kind of sad if you dont have wealthy parents.. All it does is point out more of the gap between have have and have nots.. I think it would of been more fun to just have a normal dance at the school instead of my prom planers that spent $$$ cash for a big name place. I me we all know prom is about the after party!!! Normal dances at the school were $10 per couple.

Break down of my prom... It was $175 for tickets to get into the dam dace, $150 per person for the limo (4 couples) $125ish for dinner (per couple) add on $100 for suit rental. I mean we are looking at $500 per person just for a guy, poor girls have to spend twice that when they add in their dress and junk. Not a lot of people have $500 for blow on a one night event.

Heck I know I spent maybe 1 1/2 hours at the school event prom site then it was off. I say save the kids some money have it at a cheaper place then get together with some other people and have a house party after. Heck if you get 100 kids to keep their mouth shut and $20 per kid you could rent out a warehouse somewhere and have 5-8 kegs.

Just to help you get money.. In my state we can donate $200 per year to the school then write it off in taxes and you could chose what organization in the school you wanted to give this to.. So you might want to ask someone at your school if your state has a donate to school tax credit.
