2003-2006 M3 or 2008 135i??

Okay, given the released price (with options) will be more than what I (as well as others) were hoping for, I was thinking why not get the outgoing model M3. What do you guys think. Isn't the 135i supposed to be equal in terms of performance? How would you size the two up and compare and contrast the two? Would it be better to wait on getting a used 135i (if any will exist)? I figure I could get an M3 in the '03-'06 year range with low mileage for low to mid 30's. How expensive would it be to mod the M3 vs the 135i for power and performance? Give price examples if possible. The 1 would probably be cheaper, since it's turbo'ed (correct me if I'm wrong). And what about maintainence for the M3? Reliablity, longevity? Any help is appreciated.
