Interesting tidbits from this article http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--fo...094336411.html

".....the biggest issue Lakers vice president Jim Buss had with choosing Phil Jackson over Mike D'Antoni as head coach centered on the consequences for Steve Nash. With no use for this point guard in the triangle offense, Buss's fear was that Jackson would've pushed to move Nash out, sources said.

Buss passed on the Lakers' glorious championship legacy to attach his franchise to the desert mirage of D'Antoni and Nash, a reunion tour born of a one-dimensional, gimmick offense and a point guard pushing 39 years old.

"The way this turns out," one league source connected to the hiring process said, "you've chosen not only Steve Nash over [Pau] Gasol, but maybe over Gasol and Dwight [Howard]."

Under Jackson, the Lakers would've played through Gasol, Howard and Bryant in the post, would've dictated terms through the strengths of the franchise's Hall of Fame players. Under Jackson, the Lakers would've had a leader of men to gather them out of this rubble.

In the end, D'Antoni is a coach who fundamentally doesn't believe in post play, who sees franchise centers as intrusive cloggers of the lane."

If he wasn't on this team they would be as bad the Clips in the 80's. also heard a stat from John Ireland today and this is for all the Kobe haters that say DH12 should get more shots. He is the second highest in the NBA right now for getting the ball in the post. Not Kobe's fault the dude can't dunk the dn ball.

Lakers suck and he it not because of Kobe. Oh yeah and Gasol got his chance tonight. What did he do. Not much because he is too soft to be a full time center. He should quit crying and start making his shots from the wing.
The lakers have no chemistry period this is why they suck!!.....on the Jodan Kobe never ending topic Jordan was very influential with not only his team mates but everyone in the world, it was almost like he was born to do this, Kobe on the other hand is a great basketball player but more of a copy cat he is not infuential, he dosent influence his team mates or anyone else to work like him or be like him...we can argue stats all day but the bottom line is that Jordan had more respect, leadership and a tremendous will...more so then any other in this game, and you can't teach it its a gift, it also dosent show up on stats.

I think if Lebron stays healthy he can top MJ on phisical level stats, but he dosent have the killer instinct like M.

Why don't they count?

All of MJ's playing days have to count... You can't just ignore his days with Washington just to make your point valid.

Jordans teammates disliked playing with him, they all admitted that he was really hard to deal with after he retired. The difference is that Jordans teammates were smart enough to understand that he will lead them to victory. They trusted and believed in him.

The NBA protected Jordan as much as it could from any media back lashing, no one was allowed to talk bad about Jordan while he was still in the NBA. It's much easier to trust and believe in someone when no one ever talks bad about him. In my opinion if Jordan had to go through the same type of criticism that players go through today he would be looked at quite differently.

Im not sure what criticism these guys have today compared to then, when M played the media use to trip about his gambling habits, his trips out till midnight before play off games, we all new before he retired that he was an aroggant bastard and a hard guy to deal with, i could not play with a guy like that, also he had affairs with all kinds of chicks this was known no cover up ther, same with Kobe drilling that chick in the ars in the hotel same shit different decade.

He did get allot of calls, help from the refs, but allot of that had to do with the refs loving him looking up to him, Jordan comanded respect from all who played with him and against him, that was his calling he was born to do exactly that, dude had a major competitive ego one that most encluding myself would have a problem with, he controlled the game in away you can't put on stats

I think the Lakers are unfortunately done for this year. I'm sure Mike Brown is somewhere feeling vindicated...

I think Kobe is starting to realize he can't win games on his own.

Considering how competitive the west is, Lakers need to win 30 games and lose 8 times to be in the 8th seed with 48 wins

With that many allstars on that squad they should be able to win 30 games out of 38

The question now is if Kobe can stop taking 20-30+ bad shots per game and continue to play like this. Still doubt they can make it to the playoffs

30-8 seems like a dubious task, but considering that they're 4 games out and I believe play houston and portland two more times, it seems more doable.

It was a great win, but it's just one win.

And their ball handling (13 turnovers) and free throw shooting (16-29) was still horrendous.

I'm sure they have some tough games ahead and need to play well to make the playoffs. Just mentioned houston and portland as they are currently the 8th and 9th seeds ahead of the lakers.

There is still plenty of doubt, but if they do make it in, they will be playing good basketball and have quite a roll going so should put up a decent fight against the top seeds.
