My F30 Milestone
50,000 miles in fact! And about as many stone-chips. My 328i just ticked over to the big 5-0 last Saturday.
So with the (strangely) beautiful weather, what better way to celebrate than some DSC off action on a few roundabouts eh? What a great car it's been so far, I love it. It still feels as good now as it did at 8000mls, which is when I felt the engine and transmission had properly broken in to their optimum. Yes, it's cost me more to run than my 30d did (returning 35-38mpg opposed to 45-48mpg) but because I was an earlyish adopter of the new 3 Series, you couldn't get a diesel beyond a 20d. It just had a service at 48,500mls which saw it have new front discs and pads, plus a new set of front shocks as one was leaking. I did hit a fecking great pothole a few days prior so did ask them to check everything was okay. Those are actually its second set of front shocks after they were changed about 28,000mls in an attempt to cure the F30's notorious clunk audible to the driver from their side. It didn't work, but the clunk doesn't really bother me. It's gone 50,000 miles thus far so I'm quite trusting in its reliability! I've seen quite a few 328i owners on here (and F30 in general) have some fairly major issues that have seen transmissions and the job lot replaced but I've been very fortunate in having no such issues. Especially when RobUK has a damn near identical spec to mine, from a very close production date. We all know the amount of trouble the poor guy has had with his car. My issues over its 17 month lifetime have only been: Squeaky folding mirrors - mostly sorted with a good clean. Noisy interior fan at higher speeds - a common issue and something replaced and sorted at service. Coolant level low - coolant reservoir replaced and refilled at service. Quality & Enhancement Updates have helped ASS and the Auto Wipers a bit, but both at the moment are shite across the range. I know they are working on new ASS technology though, which we'll hopefully see before 2020. But fairly trivial problems taking into account everyone else's aren't they! And to be fair, being a new model with a new engine (N20) and new trans - I expected something to go wrong at some point so it's definitely exceeded my expectations. I've never heard of an F30 any higher mileage than mine, and certainly not a 328i, but I've no doubt those 320d and 320d ED guys will have passed me now. So I have 13 months left until change now so I might have my eye on a 4 Series Gran Coupe...

Good write up. I think I should have gone for the 328i as I do so few miles. Done 5000 in almost a year! I too went for glacier silver and am also thinking of a 4 grand coupe as my next car...will be two years before I can think of that though...

My 316d sport 20 months old just turned 78k today and booked in for a 78k service next week. The car has been fantastically reliable , still on original pads discs and barring 2 sets tyres, windscreen, and services no issues. Strangely driving back from Aberdeen last night the tyre pressure warning system alerted however all tyres were fine. I reset and since then no problems. Considering its the poverty engined car the performance far exceeds the stated bhp and when compared with cars in its price range performance superb.Even when caned the car returns 51 plus and has averaged 55mpg
Its the handling that puts a big smile on my face and with the 18 inch wheels is a good looking car. Car will be changed Sept its either a 318d m sport or the new C class |

Rarely seen any others on the road, and it's a good talking point.

Oi, she's like new! No knacker's yard for my F30.
Apparently, any Alphabet lease car >50,000mls goes straight to auction.
