Thinking of Boss 302...

So I am thinking of going from my 2010 335xi coupe to a 2012 boss 302 at the end of summer. I can get one for like 35k with around 10k miles on it. I love the way the car looks and the NA engine and simplicity of the car make it appealing to own and maintain for a long time.

I know there has been a ton of threads on the 302, but what do you guys think of going from a 335 coupe to a Boss 302?

It won't be as comfortable but it's definitely more fun. I'd say go for it, they're really awesome cars.

You will have much more fun in a Boss 302. The power, sound and handling will make you wish you did it sooner. You can also add bolt ons that can give you 200-400 more ponies also. Not that it needs it.

I personally do not like the lack of lowend torque. On the street the car was not impressive (my tuned 13 GT felt more responsive (throttle). I own a 235i and a 13 GT there is no comparison between the 2 cars. I'm done with Ford for a bit.

I looked at a 302 before I got my m3. But after getting the feel for both. The m3 was slower, but made a better daily driver. Plus it looked nicer inside and out. With that said, I would still take a 302 over a 335 all day long. I will warn you, if you go with a powerful n/a v8 your not going back to these small turbo engines. For there lack out sound and emotion.

Just a suggestion, but you could hold out for a 2015 GT and get the performance package and Recaros. They've already claimed that it will outperform a Boss LS, plus it will have a better interior (and exterior if you ask me).

With x-plan pricing, getting one for about $35k won't be difficult.

wow the net gt is gonna be that powerful? When is it coming out? And when it does, I would assume boss 302 prices will drop substantially?

There was 2 Boss 302s on the track with me the last time out... My 2014 335 w/ MPPK and DHP was faster in the turns but both of those Mustangs would walk away from me on the straights.

No offense to you at all but that tells me the 302 drivers didn't know what they're doing.

The 302 is on par with the e9x m3.

There is no confirmed arrival date nor have they published concrete output figures. Ford just stopped production of the MY14 last week, and the first MY15 production job begins on August 11th, to give you some frame of reference.

Upgrades are vast and I'm sure I couldn't list them all if I tried.
-brand new chassis
-reworked Coyote (pending output at >420hp and >390lb-ft), although DI is still off the table
-new EB 2.0T I4 (pending >305hp/lb-ft)
-IRS out back

Those are just the main pointers, but there's a lot to read up on the brakes and chassis improvements.

I suggest you go to this site if you want to read up on it: Mustang6G.com

And if you're considering one, apply for X-Plan pricing through MCA. It costs $50 to register, after 60 days you receive two pins valid for two separate car purchases, and you get no haggle discount pricing (you pay invoice - 0.04% of invoice + $250). Just present your pin. You can save $3-5k without any sales BS. It takes 5 minutes to register.

Also I don't know of this is a huge deal for you, but the lack of a telescoping steering wheel was a complete deal breaker for me in the S197. If you like the classic "racing" seating position then the S550 GT might be more enjoyable than a Boss for you.

Actually the base Mustang GT with brembo brake kit is on par with the M3. The Boss is way faster than an M3.

OP if you will track, definitely get the boss. If not, why not just a regular GT Mustang?

I'm not offended... In fact, I believe I was complemented.

Really neat cars, seem to be track beasts, but buying one and putting miles on it will really cost you. They're still very pricey on the used market due to low production and demand, but only the ones with low mileage will retain the value. A quick search found two near me, one with 19k miles asking $42k for non-LS which was the new MSRP of an LS give or take. The other with 13 miles on it and "unlisted" price...

For $42k you're buying high and will sell low if you put miles on it. You might make some money in 15-20 years if you just let it sit in the garage, but $42k in an a mutual fund seems like a smarter decision and requires no maintenance and storage fees.

I think it's a better collector's car. For the money and back issues it will bring you, I'd buy a Corvette instead, C5 Z06 or C6 base can be had for under $30k now.

i own a new mustang gt with boss 302 parts.. yes i know its not the actual boss 302 but from a person who owns the new mustang and e92 m3 they just cant compare. i realize you dont own a m3 but the mustang is no where as refined as bmw, style, confort, performance. yes i know alot will argue that the mustang performed as well if not better then the e92 m3 they just dont compare. but with the correct cortex susp you can run a 315 square on the mustang and is alot of fun but anyhow just my 2 cents

I disagree with part of what you are saying. A 2012/2013 Boss 302 NON LS can be had for ~$35k wict extremely low miles. Being an american car, parts and mods are relatively cheap and can be found very easily. It is a bare interior so no need to worry about all the creature comforts we are now all used to breaking. As far as being a bad buy, it is the last "true" mustang as many would like to refer to it as with the solid rear axle, it is also part of the first generation return to the 5.0 and on top of everything it is a limited edition run. I think that with even a significant amount of miles on it, the value will still hold very well. Similar to an e46 M3.

As far as refinement, don't buy a mustang if that is your top prioity. Buy a mustang if you like loud and fast cars. In this case, one that can also handle.

Two extra points:

1) seriously check out the 2015 mustang like what Year's End spoke about. Performance wise, it should be surpassing the BOSS LS which is pretty sweet.
2) If you can, swing a 2013 boss 302, they are all around the same price point and you get all the cool little ford gadgets in the dash (forget the name for it) that the 2012 car's dont have. Remember to get one with recaro seats (comes with LSD). Lastly, check out the ford racing parts, springs, race key etc... lots of good stuff!

Coming from a 335is to a 2014 gt500 I say get the boss. You will be surprised at how good a ford can be. For me I never track and I absolutely am infatuated with my cars straight line power and exhaust note. I'll never sell it I'm just going to add to the collection in about 10 years with another muscle car. I'm definately not a vette guy though. If I was in the market right now I'd save for the hellcat or add another gt500 to my garage. I'm all done with European 6 cylinder turbos. For $1500 I can get the raven racing 13-6 kit and get to 750ish to the rear wheels. I'd love to have a boss too.
