How many of them do you think just googled horological?

Here's a good automatic watch with some history. Military issue for the British Royal Navy, practically unbreakable, capable to 300m. The closest thing to a seamaster or submariner that you'll find for the money. Watch aficionados will recognize it immediately, and not everyone will have one. This should give you an idea as to the price:

http://cgi.ebay.com/1-NEW-CWC-ROYAL-...#ht_566wt_1075

Note that the ebay link is a link to a watch without a date function, as opposed to the picture below it which obviously includes that functionality. Both are available. Also worth considering would be a technomarine abyss, although it uses a quartz movement IIRC. It's claim to fame is that it's waterproof to 12,000m, just in case you need to need to dive to the earth's core.

All I see at Tourneau for less that 1k are Tourneau store brand watches that look like somewhat bad knockoffs of the IWC Pilot's watch or the Omega Speedmaster, depending on the model.

Collin, if it wasn't for those diamonds, I would have already ordered one of those. I like that watch, loved it since the first time you posted it here actually. But the diamonds are too over-the-top for me personally. Not ruling it out completely, I'd just have to see it in person before pulling the trigger.

I'm not looking to buy "the shit". I could if I really want to but there's really no point in buying a $5k-10k Rolex. I'm not into that whole baller status thing. Just want a nice watch.

Looks very nice for the price, not to blingy, just enough
That looks nice but I don't think it'll match me.

I have a couple from this place. Great boutique brand and really quality pieces. Gunter (owner) has several pieces that are in your price range. They come out of Germany and take about a week to get here, but are well worth it.
Those looks pretty nice. I'll keep that as an option. Thank you!

Love it so far, only $125 so I don't feel guilty wearing it everyday, and looks more expensive than it is...I've gotten compliments from people wearing Oris, Omega, etc. thinking I'm wearing an $800 watch. FWIW if you're set on getting a premium brand, I recommend Oris, they have some really good looking stuff in $800 range. But for me, If I'm not spending $1000+ I figured I might as well just get something cheap and pocket the extra $600

When I was looking in the 700-1000 range Amazon.com seemed to have a really good selection
Yeah I noticed that you could buy a decent watch for about $500-600 and there's really nothing in the $600-1000 range. It just goes from $600 to like $1500-2000.

I actually like Movado. I agree it might be a bit played out though. I'll look into the Hamilton watches. Thanks!

The reason why I said Tourneau is because I might be able to get 40% discount there. Your comment got me curious though. Care to expand on that?

I'm thinking of just saving up for a while and just go with an Omega or something.

Have you checked out Tag and Oris? They both make some really nice watches that can be had under $1k.

I <3 my Tag F1, it's a cheap $500 watch but it does the job and I get compliments on it all the time.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that Tags are cool too. I looked them up last night and really liked a few of them. They're not crazy expensive yet they looks great.

A word of advice, if you are looking at Tags (even casually) I would buy grey market and save the money over a dept. store, etc. (I've purchased a couple from Ashford.com over the years and been very happy with them.)

The reason being is that unless you are buying one of their limited editions, or one with an in-house movement they don't hold their value very well.

This is good advice to be sure, and I'd also definitely recommend thoroughly investigating whatever dealer you choose. Futhermore, I'd seriously recommend going to timezone.com and doing some research there. I noticed that my suggestion was ignored, despite being relatively unique, handsome (subjectively of course), built to military specifications, having excellent fit and finish for the price, and being the only automatic suggested thus far. Perhaps it was not to the OPs liking, as he appears from his reference pictures to be looking for a diving watch with chronograph functionality. To be honest, finding a decent diving chronograph for under $1000.00 USD is going to be difficult.

I thought I quoted you but I guess I missed it. But yeah I don't like those designer brands like Gucci, Kenneth Cole, Guess, etc. They don't look good/match me even though they're cheap. I'm browsing TIMEZONE right now looking for some stuff. I asked a guy at work today about Movado vs Omega and he said Omega. He said he can get me a discount but I don't know how much though. I guess I'd like to spend about $1,000-1500 or so with a discount. So like an $1800 or so watch at Tourneau would put me at about $1k.

Hmmm I'll keep that in mind. I will most likely end up with either a Tag, Movado or Omega (this more so than the others).

Your coworker is right. I wear an Omega, and I generally wouldn't buy a Movado, as they mostly use unremarkable/quartz movements in their watches. Seriously, search timezone for the CWC RN diver I posted above, I'm sure you'll find it got positive reviews. FWIW, I plan on getting one myself, and my current watch is a Omega PO XL 2900.50.91 and uses a coaxial escapement movement. Google it to find out why this is interesting.

If you buy the Omega, I would not go grey market. Even in the grey market you will be out of your specified price range however.

Wow beautiful watch!!! That coaxial movement is pretty sick. Damn Omega might really be out of my reach. I was looking at the Omega Seamaster Pro (aka James Bond's watch).

I really like this watch here

That's a beatiful watch. If you'll examine the bezel carefully, you'll note it bears a remarkable resemblance to the CWC I posted. Of course, the bezels on diving watches often look very similar. FWIW, the PO XL is Bond's "other watch". It's the one Craig wears when outdoors in Casino Royale. That movie is what first brought my attention to its attractiveness. After I read about the movement I was hooked, and had to purchase one. Interestingly, Jeremy Clarkson wears one as well.

Yeah I noticed that most diver watches look very similar. I just saw that other James Bond's watch on Omega's site. lol

The Planet Ocean is too expensive for me. I would love to have it but I don't want to spend that much. Sexy as hell though.

So my co-worker showed me a catalog of Panerai watches. I read up on them so right away I was like "oh I heard about those. they're rare right?" He then showed me a watch that he found in Beverly Hills (just one available) which is about $130k (encased in 18k gold). Never knew watches could be so expensive...
