Need Help with Transfer Case Reset
I've been having a shudder issue with my car for months (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1201992). I've ordered a new transfer case motor (27107546671) and am going to install it on Saturday.
I've been told I will need to reset/code something with the transfer case as the new motor will be sending new voltages and the computer needs to know how to interpret them. My questions is, can someone walk me through the steps on how to do this or show me the DIY? I did a search and came up with nothing. This is the software I have - INPA, NCS-Expert, Tool32 and WinKFP. Thanks in advance!

The VTG module is the transfer case control unit (VGSG); Verteiler Getriebe Steuergerät. To access it in INPA, go to E90 -> Transmission -> Gearbox / DXC VGSG You should be able to default code it with NCS-Expert and calibrate it with INPA. Hope that helps, good luck.

I am brand new to coding, so a bit weary. Not really sure how to "default code it with NCS-Expert" or "calibrate it with INPA"

Also not sure what needs to be done with NCS_Expert. This thread is saying that the reset can only be done with DIS software - http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=818073 Is that true?

In any case, DIS is ancient dealer software. You would be best off pursuing the current dealer software, ISTA/D. Sometimes referred to as Rheingold. Perhaps it's worth considering a handheld scanner: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1224276 With regards to coding...

Reset VTG and the transfer case
The easiest reset is using ISTA.
Scan the vehicle and then select "vehicle management" tab then select "service functions" then go to "Power train" then select " Transfer box/ transmission control" then select "repair." Click on display and this service function will take you through the transfer case reset. First it will reset the classification resister and then the internal clutches. You have to select the option that you replaced the transfer case. Hope that helps |

Thanks smiley. I was looking about how to replace that resistor as I brokeone on an E83. I did it on my E90 a few years back could remember how to set the resistor. The resistor fell apart when I tried to unplug it.
