Do you UBER as a driver?

Just curious if people here joined up to Uber and use their nice cars to drive people around! It would be a nice surprise if I asked for an Uber driver and he showed up in a Ferrari or something!

I could be mistaken, but I think there's more to it than that

I knew a few people that did it a bit. One in an E92. Seems like he was ok with it mainly if it was picking up girls at 2am to bring to their places.... I would be forever worried about accidents happening with drunk people but meh.

I don't use UberX in the first place, just the "regular" Uber.

Ride Sharing. Similar to Lyft. No money exhanges by hand, rather by an APP on the phone. Like a taxi service kind of, but people can use their personal cars and don't need a taxi licence... There is a lot of controversy due to the "non-taxi license" issue.

There is UberX, Black Car and SUV in most cities where Uber is "allowed". In cities like Austin where Uber is not allowed, you will find UberX.

UberX is just regular people like you and I driving their cars around when they have some free time. Not the smartest thing since most of those people have regular insurance. If they get into an accident, and you get seriously hurt, it could get complicated. I'd rather not take that risk.

Black Car are vehicles usually owned by limousine services. They are properly licenses and insured, but just get on Uber when they have some free time. I do *not* use taxis EVER when I travel for business, I always use Uber Black Car. My American Express is on file via the Uber app. Whenever I need a ride, I get on Uber, go where I need, get out and I'm on my way. I don't need to mess with cash or tipping. They send me an invoice via email which I need for expense purposes.

Uber is an awesome service that at least in the DC area makes the taxi cabs and taxi companies look like total dump.

So the difference between Uber (regualar - drivers have $1mill policy through Uber) and UberX is that the partrons don't have the insurance clause? I wouldn't take that risk either. We have regular Uber here in Indy and I have used it up in Chicago. Didn't know they created UberX.

Thanks for the explanation.

Which is a big reason why so many of the cab companies are fighting to get rid of Uber/Lyft in so many areas. They don't want to have to step their service up and are losing customers because there is a better option out there.

I considered it at one time but decided I didn't want dirty, smelly, drunk people getting in my car and making it dirty. And the insurance issue was another thing.

When I travel to cities that don't have Uber, I resort to renting a car. I simply refuse to get into a worn out piece of shit ex-cop car that smells like someone shat in there a year ago and never cleaned it. The drivers don't speak English, are often rude and I'm afraid to sit down when I'm wearing a suit in case it sit in something nasty.

The other day I came back from a business trip and had to take a taxi home. The smell in the taxi was so horrendous that the driver tried to cover it up with some air refreshers. The stank in that car was a mix of the nasty odor in the vehicle mixed with an overbearing air refresher. I had my window all the way down and I still had to fight back throwing up. I am NOT exaggerating.

Uber Black Cars are often Lincoln Town Cars, although sometimes you get a 7-series or Merc S-Class. They are VERY clean, they give you a bottle of water and the drivers are dressed in black suits, just like a private car service should be. The only way to travel frankly.

Why the hell would I want to drive other people around? I have my own places to be.

Apparently you didn't wait long enough in school before ditching English class.

I already asked that question a few posts up.

Ahhh, I was sidetracked by UberX. Apparently there are different levels of this glorified taxi service.
