disappointed in Canon. they should have been going after the FS100 market. but really happy that the Scarlet is no longer 2/3". that's is frickin' awesome.

Yeah, are you, rodi? Maybe not the best for a run-and-gun setup, but that studio is another story.

Well, you have to add all that stuff: $14k for the kit, PLUS more SSD REDMAG modules. Would need an extra 128GB one at least at $1800 a piece!

Post on the RED workflow would not work for wedding work. The 1Dx would. So would whatever Canon comes out with next in the EOS-C line or 5D3 or whatever.

So, to answer your question, I don't know. But if I was doing enough production work, the Scarlet would be it. Plus the 1Dx's for weddings.

out of curiosity, what's the problem with post in the RED workflow?

it's not a problem, it's just a lot more work. SDE's would not be possible with RED.
You have to take the RAW files, do a one-light pass and re-encode for editing. Then, after the editing, you process the raw files that you're going to use, render those out, then resize them down to 1080 or 720, then pull them back into your editor or into your final output software, then render your movie. And even on a geeked-out MacPro, we would have to remember to render our dailies the night of the shoot so they'd hopefully be ready in the morning for editing. they take a lot longer to re-encode or render than the easy process of the 5D files.

with that said, there may be advances now for editing the red files natively so you can skip the first step. it's been a while since i've shot on red.

it's really the same thing as using DSLR movie files, except that they take a hell of a lot longer to render and require (a little) more time in the color grading step because they're raw (yeah you can batch process).

rodi, I heard RED Rocket is awesome for transcoding stuff in real-time, even at 4k.

by the way, the new Canon cinema prime lenses are $6800 each, and the zooms are a whopping $45k each!

Starting to have some more faith in this cam, but still can't justify its price tag vs. RED SCARLET.

I heard they are reducing the price on the C300 to ~$16k... of course just a rumor.

Still have a lot to learn but cinematography is something we at Activ have been getting more serious with. Lately we have been upgrading our video equipment and taking some lessons so be on the look out for future videos!

Video from quite some time ago with a Sony Fx1000 and Glidecam (first day using, not fully balanced) Now working on my 7d set up.

Not sure if you guys are interested or not, but here's a video I've been working on for fun for the past 3 days.

I used two 5Dm2's, indislider pro, a caselite-4 system, and a glidecam HD 1000. Most of the editing was done in FCP 7 but a couple of shots were edited in After Effects.

Let me hear some input!
