Buying a car?

Hello guys,

I will have to change my 330i for a thousand dollar car
I will be living in the us for almost 4 months and renting a car for such a long period would not be very reasonable.

I have no idea what car should I get over there..Im from europe and cars here are different. Could you please help me? What car should I get? around 1000 dollars..not wanting to spend more..thank you very much, I appreciate your help.

Regards,

Stefan

$1000 car = money pit

I'd look for a cheap rental solution if I were you. Buying/selling/repairing a car for that time period probably won't be worth the hassle.

I'd spend a little more and get a Honda Civic. You won't have to worry about anything and it may end up costing less than a cheaper car requiring lots of maintenence.

Check these out, under $2,000.

and obviously the one that i would get:

I agree with luckystrike and think you should get a bike instead. You could always use public transportation as well. Of course, that depends on where you're going to be, places like New York and San Francisco have great public transportation...but if you're coming to Los Angeles, then you would need a car.

By renting car you avoid pain to sell after 4 month
But...
If you decided you have to buy - for Phoenix - make sure air conditioner is working. Make sure you check AC. If I was you - small Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla will be my #1 choice

civic or integra is the best way to go. good gas milage and if anything goes wrong, very simple car. you could probly spot the problem yourself

but than you always have a chance of theft but thats with any other car.

For a bare bones commuter car in the u.s., I would recommend a 5-8 year old honda civic or toyota corolla, preferably with a standard (manual) transmission. Try to find one with less than 100000 miles on it. It should be fairly reliable, and would be inexpensive to maintain at a local garage if anything breaks. You can also expect good fuel economy; around 30-35mpg. For example, I sold my 1998 civic a few months ago with 84000 miles, clean car everything works, for $4000. It's current owner could probably drive it for 5 years and spend no more than $1000-2000 in maintenance, maybe less.

Seeing as you're going to be in phoenix, I would say go with a civic. They are very reliable and you would have a decent chance of re-selling it once your done.
