Hey guy, Im gonna be in Houston at the end of November, i'm looking to book a hotel, so please recommend me a few nice hotels in the downtown area(safe areas). also good places to go for supper and drinks at night. but hotel is the most important right now, i'd look to book one this week.

Hotel ZaZa if you want up upscale and trendy. It's located in the Museum District, SW of Downtown/Midtown and NE of Rice Village. If you're going to visit all areas of town, this is a good location b/c it's at the center. If you'll only be in the Downtown area I would recommend staying in Midtown, but I'm not sure what hotels are over there.

As far as eating goes, I can tell you what's good in Rice Village:
Brunch - Happy's (Sat & Sun only)
Lunch - Istanbul Grill (authentic Turkish food)
Dinner - Benjy's (order the chocolate cake for dessert, trust me)

I do not know if you have a spouse going. Either way this place is unreal.

Yes, it is $10 for a slice of cake, but damn well worth it!

ZaZa here has, or at least used to have, some heart stoping talent wandering around.

I would think the same is true for Houstons.

I live less than a mile from hotel zaza, there are always Porsches, AMG Mercedes, even Bentleys parked out front of that place.

^ Good.

I would tell him/her to go to Brennan's for Cajun/creole but it is still being rebuilt...Katrina/fire.

You mention "safe" downtown areas. Downtown Houston buzzes at night just like the day time hours. People everywhere. At least on the more northern end. It's a huge downtown, if you will.

Tons of cool bars and such right in downtown. It's been a few years but I think Smith street is loaded.

Houston sucks ass. I used to live there. Traffic is horrible, crime rate is high, weather is obnoxious. I'd much rather live in Austin.

i was born and raised in Houston. but i have lived many other places, including austin. once you know what life is like outside of houston you dont want to come back. and my biggest complaint is the people. i dont like the South in general, even though TX is its own thing. Houston does have much to offer, it just doesnt suit me.

Oh, also, if you're looking for some nightlife, go to one of these 3 areas:

Midtown: west gray and brazos area. all the bars are within walking distance.

Rice village: take kirby south and turn left on university blvd, cant miss it.

There are a few other places around houston with some good bars, but if you just want to park it and hit up a few diff bars that night, those 2 places are where to go. personally, i like rice village better, but thats just because i lived in midtown for a year and probably went to the bars 3-4 times a week, so after a year of that it gets kinda old, lol.

If it only takes you 11 minutes without traffic....time to find a side route or leave at a different time.
