Hey guys,

Just came across this thread.

F1 weekend up here in MOntreal is NUTS. You will not be disappointed. I've been going now for almost 10 years straight, except last year of course , and it is such a great event.

I'll be there along with my partner and some other friends. Time will be tight to have a meet during the friday, saturday or sunday, but if you guys are down early enough we can do ione on the Thursday.

If anyone has any questions whatsoever regarding the track, feel free to ask me as I literally know the track like the back of my hand.

It was nearly 700 bucks for a ticket at the harbor. I was dumb to use my bank account instead of a credit card and I was charged another 20 bucks for a conversion fee. I figured I will never do this again, so I wanted one of the best seats in the house. The cheapest ticket is about 100 Euro I believe, but you'd be standing on a hill at Anthony Noghes.

I spent about 1500 on a plane ticket going from San Diego to Milan, then Nice, then back to San Diego. I say Nice because almost nobody stays in Monaco during the weekend except the filthy rich. The cheapest place I found in the city was 1400 a night.

So...

- Monaco GP ticket 700
- Plane ticket 1500. But I think if you only stayed in Nice a ticket can be found for about 1100-1300.
- Hotel is about 100 a night in Milan for a week. We'll be in Nice for four days; I didn't see how much the hotel was. I'm guessing less than 200 a night. Hotel is being split between me and my mom. Dad is going on a motorcycle trip to Alaska in June so he can't afford to go.
- I am guessing around 300-500 for train tickets (Euro Rail).

Take into account I haven't put the cost of a new DSLR I bought, or a Ferrari/Lamborghini/Pagani museum/factory tour... or Ferrari F430 rental... or bus passes... souvenirs... or food...

Before this I was contemplating the BMW Performance Kit or a Dinan Flash. But they'd only be fun for maybe a few months.

I'm going to go lower, and start saving. Monaco 2012 here I come!

You guys actually inspired me to spend money on something else that isnt car, school, or partying related

Where would you suggest sitting if it was your first time going to a GP?

Try a spot where overtaking is possible; possibly near the start/finish if you're talking about Montreal. Of course, that's assuming there are seats left.

The Senna curves gives you some passing only on the Starts and Re-starts (normally a few of those in Montreal). I always suggest the hairpin at the other end of the track. 3 Grandstands to pick from.

So I say the trio of 21 - 15 - 24 , then look at 11 - 12 (Senna), then maybe bronze 31.

Driving from NYC Friday morning. Will be at Grand Stand 11, IMO one of the best spots to catch the race live.

You get to see the start and the pits. You have the breaking zone at the end of the start finish straight so you get to hear some nice downshifts crackling off (though they used to sound better when they still allowed engine breaking), make Senna and then rocket into the trees away from you.

It is going to be an awesome weekend! So pumped. Everyone be safe and watch out for the Fuzz once you get back into the states.

12 was my first grandstand, the only problem I have with it is that big white tent they always set up that blocks the view of the pits and the start/finish straight.

Other than that is is a good viewing angle right next to stand 11. I also like that area because they have two screens setup so you can always get a good view of the action.

i've been debating going to this for a while. everyone who wants to go with me keeps having to back out. this thread almost convinces me to just head up solo...and party with fellow bmws peeps. if i go, i can meet up with the nyc/nj crowd in albany, as i will be coming from ct. i was thinking just ga for sunday, but it sounds like that sucks compared to even bronze seating. when is everyone heading up? border pics would be awesome

on the car title/registration thing...if it's in a parent's name (their credit was better, i pay them the payment ) is that going to be an issue?

I don't see it being a problem. As long as your parents agree you bringing the car up. Maybe have a letter from them in your posession. But I still don't think it's necessary.
