Agreed. If we don't think that some of the engines shouldn't be on there then perhaps the BMW engines should not be on the top 10 list either.

I can tell you one thing - the Honda SOHC engine should not belong there. DOHC (dual camshaft) engines are always better than SOHC (single camshaft) engines, which are slow and torqueless. I don't know why Honda keeps making them, and I don't know why it made onto the list. Why Ward's Auto, why????
Because it is cheaper to manufacture and can be constructed in the many Honda Motor plants we have in the US. Honda has always been about price, efficiency and affordability. DOHC and more complex motors are just not one of their goals.

It would help to know their criteria. Afterall, there are two SOHC engines on that list. I'm not impressed. Although I'm sure BMW would be pleased to account for this new award for two of their engines, BMW must have a big smile knowing these aren't their best two.

When an OHV engine makes the list of 10 BEST engines, u know its not supposed to be there. BMWs N54 is a highly advanced twin turbo engine with virtually no lag, it deserves to be there. Its been the Overall Engine of the Year for 2 years now by ETOY Awards.

I am surprised not to see the I4 either in the 318i or 318d.

I expect to see a 4 banger back in the US according to "Heard on the Strasse"
