I generally don't get too worked up over celebrity deaths, but this one hit me. May he RIP.

He had a highly modded e92 m3, and would apparently post here from time to time.

Here is a photo taken several hours before his death. Judging by the extent of the damage caused to that Carrera GT, this was likely a 110-140 mph accident. I suppose that if there is any silver lining to be had here, it's that innocents weren't involved.

Btw - Jeremy Clarkson's opinion of the Carrera GT is summarized by the article below - sounds like a terrifying machine:

Clarkson road-tested the German car in August 2008 and described it as one of "the fastest and most exciting cars I've ever driven".

He said: "This is the most exciting, the best looking, the most expensive and the fastest road-going Porsche ever made.

"I've never felt anything like this before.

"It's 5.7 litre V10 engine - originally designed for racing but now it's in a road car and the effect is absolutely mind-blowing

"You need to be awake to drive this fast. It really isn't an easy car to control.

"The clutch is brutal, the power is savage and the handling....you really are on a knife edge. But if you put in the effort boy, oh boy do you get the rewards.

"It is a phenomena - mind blowingly good. Make a mistake - it bites your head off."

It's a tragedy seeing another one lost, Porsche only built 1270 of them. I wonder how many have been written off?

For those who think no one tried to help.

There is a video on TMZ from a friend where he said multiple people tried to save Paul. They watched him unconscious in a burning car. They had 7 fire extinguishers that did nothing to put out the fire. People tried to release his belt , the fire was just too much.

If the size of the debris field is at all indicative of the speed at time of impact, they were long dead before the flame first ignited.

BTW RIP to Paul, but we're not talking about a superstar here, he made one really good cult movie, which was a remake of another classic (whose leading man also died young) and a bunch of sequels, plus being in a movie where we nearly saw Jessica Alba naked.

I met him once at Laguna Seca a long time ago, pretty down to earth guy and a car nut like most of us. Sad news indeed for their families and friends as well as the car enthusiast community. May he and Roger Rodas rest in peace with the car gods, if i were to die in a car accident a Carrera GT would make a perfect coffin. I just hope their deaths were quick and painless.

Is this the M3 that crashed?

Indeed.

That had to be serious 3 figure speed at impact, WTF was the driving thinking off on a road like that

Nasty way to go..........But I'll be honest and say I'd never heard of Paul Walker as being an old git, I've haven't lasted more than 5 mins of watching any Fast n Furious film thinking it mindless tat.....but the guy did seem a genuine gearhead or petrolhead as we say over here.

A quick update: the accident occurred on a popular stretch of otherwise-empty road in Vallencia frequented by enthusiasts for drifting purposes. It appears that the driver attempted to drift around the corner at 100+ MPH in the Carrera GT.

They never had a chance . . .

"F" the CGT regardless of Paul and Rodger being famous, known, popular or not. A human life, especially one who is known to have contributed to the lives of others is priceless . The Machine aka CGT is not even comparable

It's a damn shame. He seemed like one of those really cool, down to earth, laid back guys that you would like to just chill, have a beer and talk cars with. If there is any silver lining at all, is that no one else was hurt, and that he went doing what he loved. Driving fast cars (although a passenger in this case) and helping people as he was leaving a charity event. I don't normally get all bummed out when a celeb dies, but this time I am.

RIP Paul.

Well, Statham's character already killed that Asian guy, so I imagine they can have him kill Walker's character as well to establish how badass he really is. They would have to handle it right. Regardless, without the Rock and Justin Lin and now Walker, whatever wind the FF franchise got from the blockbuster 6th installment has been thoroughly deflated.

Yes, but an event such as this can change everything. I think they will finish the film and make it spectacular as a tribute to Walker. Wouldn't be surprised if they pull Dwayne Jonson back and Eva Mendez.

I don't think the Fast & Furious franchise is going to recover from this.
