Supporting Mods for E85 + exhaust question
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com -VTT crank hub with cbc -BM3 ots e85 tune and a cary jordan tune later down the line -charge pipes -downpipes -AA EL midpipe -bmc filters Is there anything else that I need to get done? And for the exhaust, is it possible to run a E85 tune on stock downpipes? I want to run the AA EL midpipe but with downpipes it seems that it sounds bad and has lots of drone. I might just have to give up on the EL and go with a single midpipe. TIA Last edited by c63sss; 04-20-2022 at 07:47 PM.. |

Somebody is going to chime in with specifics on:
Supplemental fueling (if you're going to run full E85, to get the fuel volume you need) Proper spark plugs

Yes you can run Stage 2 on stock cats, including E85. The NGK plugs are a good idea, gapped to 0.021". You don't need fuel pumps or PI. Just realize sometimes you can run into a stuck injector when first tuning for E85, due to the higher fuel pressure needed, and adding top lube doesn't help.

Thank you everyone, will get the spark plugs. A few more questions
-If an injector gets stuck, is that catastrophic for the motor? -The shop doing the crank hub uses Motul 8100 X-Cess. Is that oil good or should I ask to swap it with a different one? -Have any of you guys had trouble covering any repairs after a crank hub job? I am told it voids the warranty so just wondering. Please let me know. Thanks! |

Motul 8100 X-cess Gen2 is very good oil. Once you tune your car the warranty is gone and you pay for fixes. Even if you flash back to stock BMW can tell.

1) BMW Flex Fuel plugs (NGK F8S) gapped to .020
2) Run a top lube with E85 like Hot Shots LX4. 1 oz per 10 gallons of E85 to avoid injector issues. 3) Bend Calibration flex fuel filter 4) Run a full tank of pump gas every 1,500 miles of E85 use to keep fuel system happy. 5) Cut oil change interval in half when running on E85 due to fuel dilution. Run a 5w-40 with high HTHS.

Thank you, everyone, definitely will be getting everything you guys recommend. Also regarding the injectors, is getting stuck something that happens only when first tuning or just something I should always be wary of? Thanks

Usually when first tuning if it happens. It can happen later (months) but that's more rare. They don't stick, they break, which would typically happen the first few times they run past normal limit.

Yea when I had the c63 most people who got stuck injectors usually blew their motors so good to know that it's still preventable.
