Vacation idea for December

What are some cool places to go to in December, preferably in Europe?

I just went to Germany for Oktoberfest so maybe not Germany again (twice this year already). I am thinking Amsterdam for a week.

I'm looking to spend about $1,000-1,500 for room and food for a week so nothing too fancy please. I looked up places on Airbnb and they're abouf $60 a night. With food I am sure I could stay under $1K for the week.

I'm just looking for a place to explore, relax and enjoy. I am not into the crazy night scenes nor do I want somewhere that is too quiet.

You're different than me. My vacations in winter are south of the equator, or this year...right on it (Galapagos Islands). I've hit Italy in November - had everything from 80 degree days in Rome - to flooding in Venice - to snow in Abruzzo. If you like that sort of thing.

Personally, Prague is on my bucket list. Actually think I'd like to go there in the winter too. Not sure why.

You really don't need a week in Amsterdam. At least combine it with Brussels then.
How about Greece? Or south of France?
Or Barcelona/ Madrid?

I just came back from my third trip to Italy. Great place to explore, if that's what you're after. People are great, food is great, scenery is great - what's not to love?

Prague was something I looked at too. Haven't looked into Spain yet. I was really thinking about Italy but might save it for the next Euro Delivery trip (hit up Italy and southern France).

I like the idea of combining Brussel with Amsterdamn though. I don't like moving around too much so I thought it would be nice to just stay in Amsterdam. But if there's not much there for a week I can add another location to it.

I'm not looking for a warm place because I am already going to Bahamas next June. Besides, I have never been to Europe in the cold months and don't mind the cold weather.

If you don't mind cold and snow, Salzburg is a very cool place at Christmas (pardon the pun). Or you could do Salzburg and Prague. Christmas is different there. Much more laid back and traditional. You just have to be ready for the cold and snow.

PERU!!!

I went to Peru for Christmas with my fiances family last year and it was one of the best trips I have ever had. Amazing food, wonderful history and the dollar goes a far way. I stayed in Mira Flores.

FYI, I have traveled to London, Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Vienna, Malta etc... thats just naming a few. Point is, I am able to compare Peru (Lima) to many other places in the world.

Not to sidetrack, but I am looking to go to Oktoberfest in Munich next year with some friends. How far in advance did you book a place to stay? I've heard that you have to book almost a year out in order to get a room.

I booked a place on airbnb 2 days before I went. It was a spontaneous trip. Lol

I went by myself, met some great people, made some cool friends and over all had a blast! If you book in advance though you can find cheaper places. I stayed near the English Garden (only about 10 min subway ride to Oktoberfest) but a lot of people stayed near the central station or south of it. Basically book a place with good reviews and book it a month or two in advance and you're golden.

I paid $100 a night (compared to $400-500) for a hotel but you can get rooms for $45 a night as well. Don't worry too much about the location. Just try to stay within Munich (not the suburbs) and you're good since you can get anywhere in town via subway and buses.

Cool, spontaneous trips sometimes are the most fun. Thanks for the info. I figure I'll try to stay close to a U-bahn or S-bahn stop to easily get around.

I actually know someone in Salzburg so maybe I can crash at her place for a week. I didn't think about Austria as a possible destination at all!

I have heard that Peru is amazing. A co-worker went there a few months ago and loved it. I will have to do some more research on Peru. Thanks for the recommendation!

It sure did, lol, although Canada wasn't really an option I would consider.

I'm headed to FINALLY see my condo in Diamante Cabo San Lucas and play some golf for 2 weeks in December. I would recommend that you go somewhere warmer in the winter, as others have said. Otherwise, Prague is beautiful (though cold) in the winter time and is certainly something I would go back for.

What about the northern Europe cruise, it goes to Brussels, Amsterdam, Paris and more....I think it’s about 8days. My girlfriend and I are considering this for next year.

I was here for 8 days in February - hardly a relaxing trip. Four planes, three buses, two trains, and countless taxis just to get around. One of my fav's though.

If your timetable was for summer, I would say Finland and Sweden. Everyone speaks English, and its beautiful then in both. Norway is insanely expensive since the fuckers found oil from their area.

I would go Spain or even better Portugal at those times, maybe even venture to the south of France.
