Can't remember exactly, but I think that older Supra tt had ~ 300HP (which was MAJOR power back then), but lower TQ. If your buddy's car really is stock with no major mods on it, I'd say you could take him in your 335i without a problem.

The Supra's had 320hp stock. I think they were about as fast at the 335i.

I believe the BMW should be a bit quicker.

Funny, I just had this discussion with one of my buddy's today.

In our opinions, the 335 would win. First off, the supra is a tank. It must weigh at least 150-200lbs more than the 335. Secondly, it didnt have a lot of low end power, it was all midrange and high end. Remember, it had sequential turbos so you could feel the lag until the bigger turbo kicked in. Also, the automatics were faster in that car by about .3 seconds. Very tough to launch a manual supra without ending up in a cloud of smoke.

Stock for stock it would be sorta close but Id say the 335 in 3rd gear FTW!

If I remember correctly, around 3600lbs. That was considered a "tank" back in 1995 when an M3 used to weigh 3100lbs. But not anymore, right on par with the 335.

Well the reason for sequential turbos was precisely to eliminate turbo lag. it had a very small turbo for low revs operation and a bigger one which kicked in at higher revs.

I think it definitely has more lag than the 335, more than likely due to the various other advancements in engine & turbo technology since (direct injection etc.).

Probably a driver's race. The 335 might be a little faster at low speeds, but at higher speeds I would not be surprised if the Supra would start walking away.

Of course, all this on a closed circuit somewhere out west after midnight.

I'd say with those two cars, it'd be a drivers race..

I stand corrected. I just found it to be 3515lbs. Actually less than our 335. Right, it was a tank back then when my 97m3 weighed 3200lbs.

The 335 should take it because well figures show stock Supra TT was about hmm like 5.6 or sometin 0-60 but I dont know about top end but still think 335 would pull away

Wow, there are still stock Supras lying around?? I think it will be a driver's race honestly..at least in the straight line. If on the twisties, you will leave him way behind. Supra is the import version of Mustang, fast in straight lines, but horrible in the turns.

I'm sure the 6 speed on the 335i gearing is a huge advantage compared to the ancient 5 speed offered by the Supra more than a decade ago!

I seriously would trade mine for a good condition 98 supra TT...those cars are priceless and will always have the bulletproof engine

I think that if it was a flatout drag race it'd be close, but if the "course" has twists and turns then the race would be won by the 335i, no doubt. The Supra doesn't have much torque, so it gains it's speed at high RPM due to the turbos. If the drivers need to brake and take corners the Supra would not reach it's full potential. The BMW, although it is also twin-turbocharged, can take corners very, very quickly.

You could always upgrade the ECU and the turbos to get double the horsepower. Then you'd have a drag-monster with a bulletproof engine.

Sorry to say the Supra's are a 6sp. I had 3 of them and wish I kept my Supra instead of selling it to get my car. I'd take my Supra and race anyone with a 335...

I would take the supra from 0-60 but the 335i will win in the 1/4 mile because of the large range of torque

Actually, Supras are 100lbs. lighter than 335s. It should be a very, very close race. (stock vs. stock)

Automatics were never .3 seconds faster than manuals, that's bull. It had a Getrag 6 speed and the AT was proven to have significantly more driveline loss than the MT. Not to meantion that the AT was garbage while the 6 speed could handle up to 800hp without upgrades. When my Supra was stock, I never had problems launching, since with sequential turbos one spools for the lower RPM's and then the other for the higher ones.

The MKIV had 320hp/315tq. In fact from that generation of turbo'd car's(3000GT VR4, 300zx, etc) it's the only one with the spec's similar to the 335. Saying you could take it without a problem is just an ignorant comment.
