Those seats are tough!

Can't wait to see one here in Germany at the dealership. And I'm also sure that at sometime, somepoint, I will run into one on the Autobahn and we both will be trying to push the other over into the right lane. Per Ludacris "Move B*%$#" Get out the way, get out the way...

Absolutely . If it comes with a manual tranny, I could overlook the AWD issue. Redlines at 8,300 rpm (by the tach), just like our M3. I don't like some Audi interiors, but this one kills the M3 (too darn plain) easily . Realistically speaking, I'm not going to buy another nice car in a loooooong time, but so far I'd probably choose this one over the Cayman S I had eyed next. Later.

Looks sick inside and out, but not ready to give up my shifter just yet. Also will probably cost substantially more than my M3

The S5 is a good looking car. From the looks of the RS5, I would guess that they picked up some designers from Pontiac. The rendering looks horrible.

I used to be a hard-core manual tranny guy myself, but DCT and DSG on our GTI (and perhaps a little age) has cured me of that position. I doubt it will be as engaging of a drive as the M3, but count out the RS5 just yet. I also considered the Cayman S when I bought the M3 but decided I probably wouldn't want to live with the Cayman on a daily basis (a little too cramped and stiff for me, although the cornering ability was simply amazing).

Pricing is actually only 5500€ more expensive than the M3, at least here in Germany. It´s supposed to cost 77.000€ and the M3 with DCT is around 71500€ over here.

If thats right, you are looking at over $100,000 for an RS5. fuuuuuuuuuuu

I like the car, I drove an S5 and was very impressed. Im sure this will top it.

But I will be DAMNED if I would even consider paying $100k for an RS5. DAMNED I TELL YOU
The RS5 won't be $100K. You can not convert Euros to US dollars that way in relation to this car or any car for that matter.

Very sorry but what is this stupidity with these switches acting as parking brakes - that's f'n moronic.

Nice car though - save for the AWD and DSG

Oooh. Beautiful..

But I'd still stick with BMW.

The number 5 is always after the number 3(as in M3!)

By all accounts it is supposed to be more economical than the M3. If true then you will need another reason to dislike.

I doubt that...the thing weighs more than a Sherman Tank!

We all know that the car isn't light but we do know that this engine has DFI and is ultra efficient.

Official stats for both cars.

M3 Manual (DCT) vs RS5
Combined (ltr/100km) 12.4 (11.9) vs 10.8
Co2 285g/km (DCT without auto-stop) vs 252g/km

The very fact that it's heavier and is connected to drivetrain that sends power continuously to an awd system yet uses less fuel and has lower emissions only shows how efficient this new engine is. One can only imagine what this engine would be like in the M3.

I'd like to point out a few things.

1. Are we even sure that the RS5 is coming State side? If not, such a comparison is surely trivial.
2. The RS line of Audi sells FAR fewer cars than BMW M GMBH. BMW M predicted to sell 100,000 M3's. I'm sure Audi's target sales is much lower, and volume is what makes car prices drop. Lower volume, lower exclusivity, higher production cost, end up making the car more expensive.

To support the above, the RS4 only sold about 10,000 units total and only 2,500 are in the States. A quick search found that the RS4's MSRP was 49,980€, which ended up being $73,520. I wouldn't expect to see the same kind of deal we get with the M3 when price comes into the picture. If I end up being wrong, and the RS5 comes state side and only costs $5,000 more than an M3 then everybody wins. Just don't get your hopes up.
