Hell yes I'll be proud. But air horns? WTF. What about teaching your children respect, as in respect for the requests of the people putting on the ceremony that asked to hold applause to the end? As a matter of fact, I would have a shit eating grin on my face and I wouldn't say a word. But then again, I was raised to have respect and consideration for those around me. Have a party at your house that night if you want to raise a ruckus.

Maybe I'm an old fugger, but I graduated in 1993 and people in the audience were respectful. Everyone crossed the stage, some applause here and there, but people conducted themselves with dignity. Why does someone need to make an ass of themselves at a graduation to show their pride for their kids?

And a high school graduation isn't really much of a milestone any longer. Sure, it's important, but it used to mean something when you could get a job at the town factory with the diploma. I really don't think it's what it used to be.

IMO the people that just sit there and bitch about other people applauding their kids are the shy ones that can't express themselves.
There is a time and a place to express yourself. People with class know that, people without it, don't.

well like i said in my previous post, there's usually a good 10-15 sec gap between each name so thats plenty of time for friends and family to cheer for their kid before the next one is called. if they are still applauding AFTER the next kids name has been called then yes, thats annoying.

they are there to support their child not someone elses. just because the some kids do not have as many people there does not mean other people cant applaud their own kid.

and a child's graduation is not the time or place. not everyone is fortunate to have family members get as far as high school, college or even graduate school so this could be a huge milestone for their family.

don't even bring CLASS into this.

Precisely. So you agree.

Who cares if a family has someone make it to high school graduation, college graduation, etc - it's not a reason to be a clown.

IMO it's okay for people to clap and what not. However, what I've noticed is that people would over do it. For example, with a large graduating class, there really is only a few seconds between students. So if people are cheering for their kids for too long, it would actually drown out the names of other students (especially when the announcer is not projecting his/her voice that well). This is what I don't agree on.

I think that nowadays there's a rush for everything. Even at graduations, announcers just want to call out names as quickly as possible and get it over with rather than actually giving students that special 10-15 seconds of fame. I'm sure you guys have noticed that sometimes there are people who would be cheering so loud and for so long that the announcer, instead of waiting for them to calm down, would just proceed to the next name and then you're sitting there thinking "man I didn't even hear the name that was just called..."

i guess its different from school to school. as far as i know, at my graduation no one cared how crazy family and friends got. everyone had the courtesy to quite down after cheering. the excitement and noise was expected and in a sense, welcomed. i dont think exhibitions of pride and joy should be contained in this case.

This is about people who want to record their kids as they walk across the stage and they want to record the audio of their kids name being called..

Also, I hope people here are joke about that people should keep their mouths shut at something like this... if not do not come looking for help from the rest of us when the police, government or a group of radial conformist come looking for you.

This is more about a few people who want you to act like them....

In my area we have a couple suing the local school, township, and local club soccer program because the kids and parents at the soccer games are making too much noise when they cheer for the kids. The stupid court systems is considering hearing the complaint. These people tried to get the police to issue tickets to kids and parents for disturbing the peace and the police would not do it.

A sporting event and a graduation ceremony are two completely different events.

The problem with people now is they have no consideration for other people, and they want to insist on having life go the way they want it. I think most of these people just needed an occasional ass-whoopin' when they were growing up.
