911... Really???

Last night, after dinner in Rowlands, I decided to head to dolphin bay to grab me an almond milk tea. On my way out from the parking lot, I heard a combination of muffled yelling, screaming and music. Immediately I stopped backing out from the parking space, turned to my left and saw what is believed to be a pair of drunks driving a blue Toyota FJ, tossing glass beer bottles out of the passenger window while heading eastbound on Colima road. Fearing that someone might get hurt, I immediately decided to contact the police at 911. What outraged me was the 15+ minute hold time without ONE operator answering. I then decided to head east on Colima to see if I can capture the license plate on the FJ. Not only did I not see the FJ anymore, but rather, what I saw petrified me... A silver Mercedes Benz SLK turned a 340, slammed into the center divider with both headlights smashed and gouged. With windows down, or shattered, I saw an asian women, completely hysterical, on her cell phone, screaming. I don't know if the blue FJ was the cause of the accident, but I felt really bad. At this point, the 911 call was still on hold... (passed the 20 minute mark) and I finally decided to hang up.

So... for emergencies, you dial 911... Really???

I feel the same way, bro. Last summer I was on my way to Puente Hills when I saw the bushes on the side of the freeway on fire. Fearing that since it was rather hot and dry, the fire can spread easily I called 911 and was put on hold for 20 mins before they HUNG up on me. It was pretty cool to see my phone went into 'emergency' mode upon calling 911 though, never seen that before.

hey come on, don't be so mean. I understand your frustration, to the OP, but sometimes we don't understand what is going on in the station. It's at night, a party night, alot of phone calls assumingly but 20 minutes IS WAY TOO MUCH of a hold time for 911...

p.s. off topic section?

I Thought This Thread Was About The 911 Car Too. Anyways, Yeah. . . 911 Sucks. I Think Its Mainly Because No A Cell Phone They Have Locate You Where As A Land Line They Know Your Location Immediately.

geez.. that's bullshit.. I've never needed to call 911 in my life, but this type of story really irks me.. what if a family member is having a heartattack and they put me on hold for 20 minutes... i'd be so pissed... i'd consider filing a lawsuit or some crap..

It probably would've been faster to hit the SOS button and call BMW Assist and have them relay the call to the local police. A sad thought.

There are times when I think that I would rather raise my family in Europe at this point. It is truly amazing how far the USA has gone down relative to W Euro over the past 6 or 7 years. I know we're in a war and all, but it's sad to see.

Here in Nashville there is a huge investigation by Newschannel5 (newchannel5.com) of the 911 system. It has uncovered everything from noone ever showing up to 911 operators saying they don't care what happens to a caller, after the call hung up.

Not much I can do about 911 system while driving, but in my home the 911 system is spelled GLOCK.

Good job, blame a local problem on the President. Could you have made a less informed comment?

Its actually quite informed. The state of the nation has declined considerably since Bush took office, as has our reputation and standing in the world.

I see it as a trickle down effect. Shit rolls down hill. So problems at the top lead to local problems as well.
