Well, honestly its been a difficult one.. very stumped with my snap-in. I WANT this to work so badly.. especially now with an extra iphone 4 I can leave in my armrest.
But, would I do it again? absolutely! lol I'm willing to pay to get this armrest snap-in working.. god it can't be that hard!

hey jezzy......I think they are talking about blue wire , pin 3 of tcu connector.
this wire is the snap in charge/on connection. and when connected to ground or any exposed part of the body , should turn on the cradle charging. what I would do is put the phone in the cradle , and with car running, get this wire and put it to ground and see if you hear the noise of the phone start to charge. will try and find out the proper oem way. wish I could help you more mate but I don't have a snapin or adapter to try..... |

As for this blue wire, `i'm assuming it's the car's harness that feeds into my TCU/Combox adaptor ? Should i look for a pin 3 on my car harness thats a blue wire? i'm assuming my combox adaptor has this pin missing? The next day i get off, i'll tear apart my trunk and look. If any of you can re-link that post? i can't seem to find it within my thread (sorry, running on 5 hours of sleep here.. ugh. kids!) thanks guys for the help! Oh, i've gotten a samsung note 3, friggin thing allows the BMW Connected app to be installed, but it doesn't work.. looks like i'll sell it and get another iPhone.. In the mean time.. i've connected my `now wifi only' iPhone 4 with BMW Connected via my note 3 with hotspot enabled (with a nfc trigger).. it works.. sorta..!

hey jezzy, the android app doesn't work on our beemers tried it on my s5.....
so I do what you do....wifi hotspot on my s5 and connect to it via my iphone 4.... The wire you need is pin 3 off the tcu connector you already had in your car.....not the combox connector.... |

Ya.. Pretty bad for the android issue. Friggin BMW!
So I'll need to locate pin 3 on my TCU harness and run it to a ground. Hope to try this weekend. Is there a clear photo of the harness showing which one is pin 3? Is the connector identified which is pin 1 ? Is it best to Un pin the wire and then run an extension to a body ground? Thanks! Last edited by jezzy; 11-03-2014 at 07:38 PM.. |

Good news I tried this blue wire today... we have power to the cradle!! Sees cradle ad external device and apps load.. now.. there's no sound from the cradle. I need to run fbas wires for audio from cradle??? Talk about never ending !
Maybe it's in the coding for audio out? I think so! Thanks guys for getting me this far! |

The only thing is if you want video from the iPhone aswell , not only will you have to run cables from the cradle to the cic unit but also cables from the cradle to the combox .
Recode your audio on USB back to analog. If you don't do this then you will run into lip sync problems. But hey happy for you and 1 step at a time........ |

I've run a set of wires from the combox to my centre console in preparation for FBAS one day. But, i didn't manage to get anything run under the carpet, so i've got a set of wires onto of my carpet between the console and rear seat. so 6" of visible wire.. ah well.. next summer i'll re-run them. winter's just about here! snow on friday supposedly.
great to see my cradle working.. finally. thanks for the help guys! i'm running an old iPhone 4s in the centre console and leaving it there.. and enabling wifi hotspot with my note 3. Works fine.. using a NFC chip in my car to enable/disable the hotspot when i enter the car.. does the job for handling the task. Next.. enabling internet on my cic.. browser. seems to be another trade secret!

Guide to internet on BMW E90 (some steps may be wrong and also you should already know how to code your car)
You will need a magic vin number (don't know if its allowed on here to mention certain things.) any way....first off you need to add a couple of things to your VO. $614 and $615 needs to be added to your VO and saved in the cas and frm module. once you have done this I recoded my cic and combox media to my new VO. Then once this is done you need to read and open the .trc file for the CIC module. we need to change the settings: CONNECTED_DRIVE From - nicht_activ to - active ONLINE_BROWSER_C0D From - nicht_activ to - beide_activ ONLINE_BROWSER_LIVE From - nicht_activ to - active We now need to write this back to the CIC module. Now we need to read the media module in ncsexpert: and in the .trc file we need to change : TELEMATIC_VIN From - most_vin to - coding_vin now write the file back to the car. We now need to change the vin number of the combox to allow internet to work. to do this we : Launch NSC expert Tool in the upper left corner of the press File, click Load Profile (load profile) choose Expert mode click OK click(F)1 or VIN/ZCS/FA press(F)3 or ZCS/FA of the ECU choose your car series (in my case the E89) and click ok we then select CAS and click ok the program now determines your VIN number and the list of options (FA), press F2 (enter FA) Again choose car (E89) and press OK in the window that opens write the new VIN number that we found , put a tick in the "checksum" and press OK the following window just click OK click(F)6 (back) press(F)4 (coding the CONTROL UNIT) Select MEDIA and click OK press the file\load profile, choose MANUAL CVT and click OK press(F)3 (code the ECU). You should now be done..... if you make any future changes to the combox you must redo the vin as it will revert to your vehicles vin number. |
