When installing coilovers, do you need to replace shock mounts too?
I'm a total noob to this stuff, so please bear with me! I'm getting KW V2's installed on my E93, and I swear I read somewhere that the shock mounts (is it rear only, or front too, first of all?) are one time use, as the nuts are locking, and you should replace them when you're at it.
EDIT - my car is an 2008 335, though only with 40,000 miles on it. With about 5 track days and assertive city driving. I think that's A in the picture below: Turner seems to say the same thing on this page: http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-11...n-m-or-xi.aspx So is it true? Do you have to do rears only, or front too? When talking to KW tech support, they knew nothing about it at all. . . Last edited by Lotus99; 10-24-2014 at 07:11 PM.. |

Thanks. My main concern was that A wasn't some sort of one time use part, that my non BMW shop when they went to install the KW V2 coilovers would discover, and then throw the install off. It doesn't sound like it at least.
I've only got 40,000 miles on my car (though with 5 track days on it and I drive "assertively" in the city) so hopefully all the parts are fine. I think I'll just get the A part then for the rear to be safe, which is $15 a side, vs. buying the whole thing for the front and rear, which is $250 and sounds overkill... |

I would skip on your car.
I just refreshed all of my bits front and back but my car has 85k miles. GetBMWParts for everything except the top hats and those I got cheaper at BavAuto. It was about $275 front and rear. |

No, those parts are not one-time use. They only need replacement if the rubber has worn out/compacted down and are loose and noisy.
You might be thinking about some of the bolts used to secure the lower suspension arms, which are meant to be torqued to yield. |

Thanks @ashmostro. I was going to order the M3 front control arm kit from Turner, and wanted to make sure I order anything else that might be needed for my shop to do the KW V2 coilover install.
So if all the parts for the front and rear shock mounts are reusable, and with 40,000 miles on my car, they're unlikely to have gone bad, then I don't need to get anything else at this point? These bolts you're talking about, should I get them, or they're pretty standard? My shop mainly deals with imports, so they're not a BMW shop, but they're pretty good. |

Get the bolts from bmw... They are specific.
If it were my car I'd replace the mounts just because... At that mileage they can get a bit flattened out. It's up to you... Not a huge deal. |

Hmmm... Are you saying these bolts are one time use? Sorry to be so thick! I know very little about suspensions.
Are they rear only, front too? Any chance you can show me which on realoem? Here's a link to the rear axle: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.d...id=50176&hg=33 And front: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.d...id=50176&hg=31 . . . Are you talking about something in here? |
