The E91 manual swap has begun. So very excited to be rowing gears soon!
PS. No idea how the PO fit an entire lawn mower under the car |

Fixed Adaptive Headlight Failure
My E90 had codes for Adaptive headlight failure.
I replaced the passenger side SMC module over the weekend that was fried due to water getting in. Coded with Protool and resolved. Also used liquid tape to remedy bare wiring issues that I had last year and its still holding up fine. |

ACC
Yup! I think my E90 came with every feature from the factory besides individual audio. The Adaptive cruise control brackets are broken and it wiggles in there but it never throws codes and works fine, never needed to calibrate it.

Armrest USB
Ran the USB cable from the COMBOX to the armrest in the green car, last piece of the $6FL CCC>CIC puzzle. Was quite a challenge getting it under the rear carpet between the seats, but in the end I won!

The play comes from a few places:
If you're doing all of the above, you'll also want some new hardware to go with:
It's not an E90, but I found this video helpful in explaining what the different parts are and where the play comes from: As he did in the video, I got under the car and prodded around on the various components. I could tell that there was not simply one source of the play in my shifter: all of the various components were contributing. I read that you need to remove the exhaust and driveshaft in order to perform all of the under-car operations, but I managed to pull it off without doing so. Not sure if E92's are more manageable than E90's in that regard, or if I'm just a glutton for punishment. The biggest challenge for me was removing the shifter arm bushing (Part 5) from the car itself. I had read that Part 3 is known as the "bitch clip" but I had no trouble with that one at all. These links were helpful in preparing me for that (again, not E90 platform but close enough): http://www.unofficialbmw.com/e36/dri...itch_clip.html http://www.unofficialbmw.com/e36/dri...ift_lever.html Reinstalling the rod selector joint (Part 11) was also challenging. All in all, pretty tough. Not sure I'd recommend it without removing the exhaust and driveshaft but it is possible on an E92. I haven't driven it yet (want to flush MTF + upgrade transmission mounts before I put all the underbody covers back on) but just rowing through the gears, the feel is dramatically different. Almost no play and much notchier. The short shift lever definitely adds a bit of effort (I'm not a fan of super short shifts, but I couldn't resist the affordable OE upgrade). Curious to see how she feels on the road. Last edited by mattanderson; 03-25-2024 at 12:39 PM.. |

THANK YOU mattanderson!!!!!! I want to get this done, but have been putting it off presuming the exhaust and drive shaft need to be dropped! Maybe, just maybe I'll attempt!
That "before" segment is what it looks like right now! Last edited by StradaRedlands; 03-25-2024 at 02:28 PM.. |

Changed the cabin air filter in the i3. Prepping to do a heater core flush on the E90, but that will have to wait. Studying for the MCAT while fighting pollen/allergies/possible long COVID.
I also theoretically washed the E90/F10/i3. Theoretically because you can’t tell after like 30 min, what with pollen… |

sgm330xi let me know if you get bored of that ACC.. I've retrofitted one to my 330xi but the sensor heater is broken (it disables the whole system) 🥲

I put LCI xenon w/ AHL on a pre-LCI xenon car.
All was plug and play, everything works , including angel eyes, high, xenon. But AHL, of course. Seems like I have the wiring since I have a code in the FRM. (Ill might only code this out) Anyway, this is strange, I was expecting way more ''retrofitting'' |

As for what I did to my car, I just picked it up from the alignment shop after swapping my AST coilovers (way too racey) for a set of Bilstein B12 with Eibach Pro Kit springs. God I love this car again! |

Nice! How is your drop with the Pro Kit?
Mine (E92 328i version) dropped the front significantly more than the rear, so the wheel gap was even but there was a lot of rake measured at the rocker panel. I deleted some of the rake by raising the front with E30 perches. Running mine with Koni yellows and quite happy. Curious how the B8's would compare. I did an MTF flush with Redline MTL (first MTF change in the car's 100k "lifetime"), buttoned up all of the underbody panels, and took her to the shop for a pre-track tech inspection. Also got to drive her for the first time with my new shifter setup (all new factory bushings/bearings except for Rogue delrin carrier bushings, Rogue transmission mounts, and OE SSK lever), and wow, what a drastic difference. Super precise and notchy and much higher effort with the shorter throw. I think I like it but time will tell; it's a big difference to adjust to. |

I did this same upgrade to my 330. My 330 had pre-LCI AHL xenons, however the donor LCI headlights didn't come with the modules, so I used custom ABS plastic plates to block off the opening at the bottom of each headlight and removed the adaptive option ($524). Very plug and play, though I did have to set SIDEMARKER_US in the FRM to "nicht_aktiv" to keep the amber turn signals lights from staying on as running lights when the headlights were on. The actual LCI amber corner lights (three amber LEDs in the upper corner of each light) don't work since the pre-LCI headlight connectors don't have the wiring for these lights, which I am OK with. I didn't care about adaptive lights, but my 335 has them and I really like it especially on dark curvy roads. However I've heard a lot of people say that upgraded projectors give you significantly better/wider/brighter light output negating the need for adaptive lights. That's my next big project on my 330. |

Started my valve cover gasket replacement. All went pretty much as expected till I got to the PCV hose behind the valve cover. It kicked my butt. Finally got it off and spent too much time wriggling the valve cover out. Done for the day, will reinstall tomorrow but pretty much have the process down. My VC gasket was in pretty good shape, still flexible but the spark plug hole gaskets had turned to hard, brittle plastic and were leaking badly, oil in a few spark plug holes. Valvetronic motor gasket was also leaking. Valvetronic sensor gasket was also done for and pretty tough to get out. Will slip it all back together tomorrow.

So, I attempted this morning to change the rear drop links on my E90. All was going well. Top nuts off, along with one lower bolt. The second lower bolt, however, decided to shear off, leaving only a few threads exposed from the hub.
I have had to admit defeat here and the car will be going in next week for a professional to free the sheared bolt and fit the new drop links. To top it all off, I managed to hit myself in the face with a spanner 🔧 🤦🏻‍♂️ |
