Hello,

After reading the 36 pages of this very interesting thread, I need to talk :

I have a E91 LCI 330i from October 2008, fitted with a GPS Pro CIC (large screen). The current map is "ECE BMW 1.2.4 Road Map Europe PREMIUM 2008-2".

I would like to update the map to 2014 (6 years of udpate won't hurt). My concerns are :

1/ How can I know for sure if I need a firmware upgrade prior to the map update ?
2/ Is the USB map update more reliable than the DVD map update ?

Thanks for keeping this topic alive

Hi everyone!

I've a Dec08 CIC and I tried to update my navi's map to the latest version.

(...should have read this thread before embarking)

Anyway, the USB did not get detected. I know it works because I tried importing songs.

Then I burnt the navi files onto a DL DVD. Popped it into the drive. Very happy that it asked for a FSC code. Entered it. It went on until close to 20% and then trouble... the update refused to proceed further.

And now, the CIC restarts itself every 2 ~ 4 minutes. The other functions of the CIC still work well though.

Hope to get some advice on what to do next...

Many thanks!

Probably there was some error on the disc, making a part of it unreadable.

Try again with the usb sticks (Make sure they are formatted FAT32, and you follow the guides)

Hope this thread isn't too old. I wanna get the map update but does anyone have any ideas on how to upgrade the iDive as well? Not the Mx/Tx but the iDrive itself to get connected drive and the apps. Can it be done remotely? Sorry for the hijack.

3steps to generate BMW CIC& NBT FSC Code

here what i fund but it dosnt work when i tray to connect the cable

software program, easy 3 steps.

Equipments needed:

FSC Code Generator software

ENET (Ethernet to OBD)) cable

EDIABAS Tool32 software

FSC CODE Calculator Software for BMW Navigation can be free downloaded from search engines:

http://www28.zippyshare.com/v/20206387/file.html

Password: “Eintracht_Frankfurt”

Or you can get from other search engines

In addition, you’ll need an ENET cable and a working EDIABAS installation on Win XP 32-bit. 64-bit will properly not work.

Disclaimer: You are on your own risk. It will generate the codes for BMW North America Premium 2014.

This was tested on a 2012 F30 with CIC.

It generates the FSC in three steps. But you have to change the “year-parameter” in the batch-file to a later map (e.g. 2016 – or even later – instead of 2014), then it works perfectly.

The Default 0x06 for 2014 does not work, but 0x09 does!

Main steps:

1) READ FSC

Open FSC Generator software on desktop

Click “Read FSC”

Select BMW chassis, e.g E-series

Click Connect

Click Read VIN

The software will display vehicle information

Click Read FSC (1B)

Click Save to File

Exit

2) DECODE FSC

Back to FSC MAP menu

Select DECODE FSC button

Click Load file and load dump bin file

Click “Search” and browse to C:/EC:APPS/a hex

Click Decode button

Finish decoding

3) GENERATE FSC

Back to FSC MAP menu

Select “GENERATE” button

Code has been generated

Open C:﹨EC:APPS﹨code.txt to check the FSC code

PS: If you fail o generate for NBT, try do following settings:

You can actually grab the 1B or DE file from E-sys by doing the following:

FSC Extended

Base variant 0x63 (For HU_CIC or HU_NBT)

Click Identify

Application ID 0x1B for (App ID 27 for CIC) 0xDE (App ID222 for NBT) <— This is the App for your Nav enabler

Upgrade Index 0x1

Move Store FSC from the left to the right

Click Read

Click Save and name the file FXXXXXX_0001B001.fsc for CIC or FXXXXXX_000DE001.fsc for NBT where FXXXXXX is your VIN.

Both CIC and NBT work.

And if you use NBT&CIC Navigation Map Update Calculator for BMW, it could be easier.

Important - there is a solution for those who has older car than 2009 and cannot update maps via USB because of old car firmware. There is no need to update the cars firmware.

Put the same folder as on USB to DVD DL (dual layer) medium and write it on the lowest speed possible. You will have 3 CDs as 3 USBs.

I just upgrade it during the ride, it took 2 hours. No problem.

PS: For FSC code or maps I recommend this seller:

My 328xiT is a 08/2009 and I was unable to update to 2012 maps using USB no matter what I tried -- FAT32 or FAT or NTFS partitions --- 8GB, 16GB or 32GB thumb drives --- SANDISK, Imation or some other manufacturer --- bootable or unbootable, using Linux or Windows to format --- made no difference. The update would not start when the USB stick was inserted into the glove compartment port. Not even starting the update with the first DVD and trying to use the USB instead of the last 2 DVDs would work. I finally just painfully installed using DVD. Had to reburn the DVDs a few times to get ones that would work all the way through.

I can use the USB port to download music to the hard drive without difficulty, therfore the USB glove compartment port is "working". The ISTA/P software was updated in Sep 2010 (to version 2.37.1 I believe) and the maps to v 2010 by the dealer when I purchased the vehicle.

I have independent confirmation from two different BMW dealers -- Tischer and WG BMW near Philadelphia that the USB method will not work with my car. They're both happy to sell me the FSC code but I need to take the car to the dealer to upload the media -- $322 total. I believe my inquiry to Tischer is the reason they put the pre-09/2009 info on their web page.

As always YMMV
Hi just wanna know how did burn them into dvds, I downloaded an rar file with different folders inside and do not know how to burn them into dvds in the right order. Please do let me know! Thanks
