Need help choosing

Been doing some research as to what to buy for the coming winter season. I was going to take the DWS because of the cheapness but came upon the WS80s which seem like the new top dog in the studless category. The DWS are $612 a set and the WS80s are $796. Are the WS80s worth the extra ~$200 or will the DWS suffice?

Or would you go for something else? A/S 3? PA2/3? X-Ice Xi3?

I live in MD and last season I ran Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position which did a ok job.

You're mixing all-season (A/S 3, DWS) with snows. My preference is ALWAYS snow tires, and for most places with mild/short winters needing only something for "casual" winter driving my preference would be for speed-rated snows so that they don't wear out too fast.

The xIce, being a non-speed rated tire, is probably the "best" if you want most snow/ice performance. I doubt that the casual driver would be able to discern much difference between the PA3 and WS80 or any other speed-rated tire.

Yea, I know I'm mixing all-seasons with snows. I'm just trying to get a feel if the cheapness of the all-seasons like the DWS at $612 is preferred or that the extra $200 for snows like the WS80 are worth it.

The worst snow tire we sell has much better snow traction than the best all season tire.
