Sea Foam

Has any one tried it and does it work for cleaning injectors? Or just waste of money?

Can't say I've tried it, but it was pretty popular with the VW GTI crowd and their DI motors. I had a MKV and MKVI GTI and forum members for both reported mixed results. Oil change is recommended/required since the stuff can break down your oil or something like that. I also hope you're ready for a LOT of smoke as you run it through, haha.

I haven't heard about it much here since most go for the walnut shell blast to clean the intake valves.

I had trouble finding the right place to pour it in so I have a canister just sitting. If anything the smoke makes for a fun time

Might as well just spray some water up the intake.

I've used it in the tank, I alternated with Techron and it solved a rough running problem that I had. Had to use a chopstick to hold the flapper open however to pour it in. YHBW!

I would pull off the DV line in my old VW and suck it up with that to clean the intake valves/pistons tops. Really have no idea if it ever worked as I never took the engine apart. I would notice a few mpg increase so I guess it would do something. I haven't looked at vac line diagrams yet for the n55 to know what to use, but I could see a potential as helping to remove some of the intake valve carbon, but not enough if it is really bad.

Sea foam is good stuff. Haven't used it on the 335, but other things in the past. The Chevron fuel treatment is the only other one I have seen actually do anything. Worth a shot if you are having injector problems.

You'll never clean your injectors as well as an ultrasonic cleaner will. If you use top tier gasoline, you shouldn't need to worry. Everyone loves seafoam, though.

I use this on my n54. Seems to work well, no walnut blast so far. It is intended only for induction thru vacuum into intake manifold unlike the sea foam. If anyone is interested about my procedure let me know.

This is what i do for n54, im not familiar with the n55...
The n54 has a vacuum line from the intake man to the two diverter valves. This is my hose...

Drive car for 15mins or more to get oil to operating temp. Put car in park and let idle. Connect wye (comes w product, this aerates to prevent hydrolock) and hose to product can. Disconnect intake man hose from the diverter valve wye and connect product hose. Sit in car and idle away to suck product, may need to rev slightly if car feels about to die. Could take 15mins or more. Service engine light will come on! Need a READER to erase code.

Once can is almost empty, turn car off.
Reconnect intake manifiold vacuum line. Let car sit for 2 to 3 hours.
Next step ERASE CODES before turning car on.
Now comes the exciting part. Turn car on. It will SMOKE and stink for few mins. Good to go after that.
Perhaps this sounds more complicated than it is?

Something to consider is that I read/heard that the smoke cloud that results from sucking Seafoam and the like into the intake manifold can clog your cat(s). Not sure if this is true but I have avoided this just in case. Maybe someone else can validate.

Another great reason for a cat delete

Seafoam is a great product on a naturally aspirated port injected motor. It's fine on any if you just use it as a gas additive. However, I wouldn't use it in a direct injected turbo motor. Seafoam in the combustion chamber will do a good job at removing some carbon from the intake valves. Problem with direct injection, this could be quite a bit of carbon. Where does that carbon go? Much will burn off in the combustion cycle, but it's possible parts of it will end up on the cylinder, or get blown through the exhaust valves - which could end up in the turbo. Unlikely there would be enough to cause any issues, but better safe than sorry, IMO.

You aren't going to clean the valves where the majority of the carbon buildup is because the valves are closed when the fuel is injected. If you suck it up the intake, then it can. Seafoam isn't the best for that, the best I have seen is the Dodge Combustion Chamber Cleaner. I still seriously doubt it would touch the intake valves. I would only use the seafoam to try to clean injectors.

A friend of mine did it to his is250 and decided it would be a good idea to not step on it until he got to a major intersection. Long story short the intersection was covered in thick white smoke for a good minute or two. Thankfully no accidents/injuries happened.

I don't think any carbon that would possibly get past the exhaust valves would hurt the turbo, obviously it's the exhaust side of it and would just pass through IMO.
