Audi is keeping the V8 in the next gen 2015 R8

Car and Driver just confirmed it and it will be better than the last one. Really disappointed BMW didn't just improve on the S65 instead of designing a totally new engine.

I applaud Audi keeping the V8 BUT they should of gone FI.. That little 40v 4.2 needs a little more than just tweaking to justify the price of the base R8 IMO..

The car is so low volume, they can put whatever engine they want in it and meet govt standards.

Yep! And technically they are the same company.

Yes and no. The overall emissions numbers are calculated for an entire brand. VW is pretty big, so you can bet that they are lumping in their Golfs, Polos, etc. in with that. You may remember Aston and their Cygnet.

This was partially why BMW bought Mini a while back as a brand emissions reducer. Now onto the M3..... I think it's still sufficiently low volume that they could have made a proper engine for it. But it's much cheaper to tweak the N55.

Me too! Shortly after the debut of the S65, I remember an interview with an M engineer who effectively stated that there is much more development to be done on NA engines at M, and that the S65 has significant room for improvement. This was before the efficient dynamics push really went full stride.

Yes, but a 6L V12 bi-turbo.

Yet the RS4 is going V6 turbo. The days of screaming NA's are over, get used to it/get over it. It's not like they are forcing you to buy a 2015 car.
http://www.autoblog.com/2014/02/24/n...sales-unclear/

I plan on going backwards and getting older BMW's.

Good job for Audi.

The M4 is the most ass sounding premium sports car I've ever heard because they castrated it due to force induction. If it gets to the point where all the major manufacturers in this segment start going that route, I'll probably just end up buying classics from then on.

VAG has the benefit of a giant pool of fuel-sippers from VW, Skoda, and the bottom-tier Audi's to balance out thelow-volume big guns from Lamborghini (and the R8) and whatnot.

Wow, for real? I was sure the new RS5 was going to be a FI V6...hence why the new 4.0L V8 biturbo C63 AMG was looking interesting. If the new RS5 is going to have a V8 then I am very excited haha

How so? It's already putting out 414 hp, with as much as 440-450 hp with bolt on mods and a tune. All of that out of a tiny V8 with only 4 L displacement. I fail to see how you can significantly improve on that without either forced induction, or a significant increase in displacement.

Somehow Porsche and Ferrari manage to squeeze more power from their NA Boxer 6 and V8 engines.

true, but these are very expensive exotic engines. I wonder how reliable are those cars gonna be long term? Can they be daily driven problem-free for hundreds of thousands of kilometers as a daily driver? An M3 is a lot more of a GT car than a weekend toy, and as such will need to handle far more adverse driving conditions, such as severe cold weather for example, lots of idling, high mileage, etc., as opposed to a 458 or GT3 garage queen.

911 GT3 a garage queen? It is usually flogged at the track and hold very well.

Kind of a blanket statement no? The Mezger engine, yes you are right. Extremely reliable. Also a race derived engine from the GT car. But they are insanely expensive (thus why Porsche stopped using them on road cars). As for a 991 GT3? Well they are garage queens at the moment due to recall and stop sale.
