New Audi rs3, m3 killer?

http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/aud...wer-1507721277

Looks like the f80 m3 has something to worry about if the speculations are true. It's going to get destroyed in weight and power. Thoughts?

With the RS3 and 2015 C63 (493 horsepower from a 4.0L biturbo V8) due out in the next few years, the M3/M4 will have some stiff competition.

Not to mention the new Lexus and the upcoming ATS-V.

Yep, and bmw got lazy and decided to recycle a n54 with new turbos. The new c class is the lightest car in its segment, with the new power and 4matic, it's going to be a killer.

Wonder where the next gen RS4 will fall if all this is true.

My thoughts are BMW got really lazy and thought they could turn up the boost on the 335i, slap an M badge on the trunk, and call it a day. The M3 is a shell of its former self. This latest generation is as forgettable as the US-spec E36. Had BMW spent more time engineering competition killing M cars instead of trying to introduce fifty new models by year's end we might not be posting in this thread. Guess we'll have to wait seven more years for something worthwhile.

While it might be down on hp Ill bet its a terror on the track. The I6 keeps it a smaller, lighter package than the one it replaces. I look forward to track times where I think it will cut good chunks off the previous cars times and be vindicated.

Yep I doubt it also, but if they're putting that in a rs3, what will they put in the rs4? There's no way they're going to let the little brother beat the big brother. The new rs3 is going to be lighter then the new m4 and have awd to help it. Even if it only makes 410 hp it will wipe the floor with the m4.

Funny thing is, is that this little 2.5 I5 is making over 650 whp on pump gase with more fuel and a larger turbo, stock internals...

The next generation is going to destroy those caught sleeping on last year.

Isn't the a3 more of a 1/2 series competitor? Recent info from Scott suggests m2 will be getting a similarly high strung turbo 4

I hate the new turbo engines as much as the next guy, but let's be fair, there's a lot more to the S55 and new m3/4 than being just a tuned 335i.

You mean awd to hinder it.......

My next door neighbour has a RS3, and it's no denying it's fast, but it's an understeering pig of a thing.

We both did a track day, and when he came out in my 135i he was amazed at how relaxed and fun it was to drive. Driving the RS3 was like wrestling with a Grizzly amid a constant backdrop of screeching tortured rubber. His tyres were trashed afterwards.

Not for me.

Haldex is never going to make for a great track car. The RS3, A45 and future fwd based BMW's with transverse engines are just not going to be as competent as a rwd chassis or even a full time awd system like the A4 and larger Audii use.

The newer generation Haldex setup in the MQB chassis is supposed to send more full time power to the rear than the one in the Mk6 cars, but MB is using an older setup that can only send 60% to the rear.

Any time a new car with enough horse power a thread with title XYZ M3 killer will emerge. If you like XYZ go buy, don't buy it because it puts other cars down.

That's the whole point of performance enthusiast choosing a car, it's better than the competition lol.... So yes, people are going to say it's better than the bloated crappy current gen M3.

Don't take it personally if your a fan, face the facts.

And I'd be more than happy to lap a track with anyone here claiming the Haldex isn't up to par lol.

Saying it's a hinderance is laughable at best. Your friend and you, need to learn how to drive the car better. It's not the Haldex that's crappy...

It'd be nice to look past the stats and performance metrics for one f*cking second and just focus on the tangible pros and cons that the cars will have to offer. The outgoing competition is both fast and competent; the upcoming generation will feature varying degrees of brilliance with a smattering of perfection.

These threads always become pointless armchair racing sessions.

Hmmm if they hold to true to coming highly underrated (my f10 m5 is putting down 550-570whp and 518-535wtrq) it should be fine especially if the competition isn't coming underrated and actually keeping pace with the 12-15% drivetrain loss.

Exactly... My F10 m5 can take the same turns within 10mph of my e92 M3.. If the driving dynamics are there with the 3/4 it should be a monster with 1000lbs dropped.

M3 may not have the most horsepower compared to these smaller displacement monsters, but it sure as hell will be smoother and linear in power delivery. BMW I-6s are silky, and with the supposed turbo calibration they did, should be exciting. Let's wait and see.
