Jobs out there that people wouldn't expect to be paying well.

I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me on non-conventional degree requiring jobs that people wouldn't expect to pay well... but DO. Anyone?

There's a guy around here that drives around and picks up dog shit in people's backyard. Dude does all right, doesn't need a degree either. I think he's looking to hire another person....

Why? Not interested in a job that pays well, where people expect to be paid well?

What's your major? If a job requires a degree, then usually it's in your field.

Plumbers make very good money.

Here's an article about 20 jobs that don't require a degree.

I am trying to narrow things down, to maybe find something I'd really like... that was specific and figure out how to get there. For example, the dream jobs that people never really thought to look into, they just played it safe with a business admin degree... something vague.

No, it doesn't. But having a degree helps getting better clients (or so I am told)

I earn pretty good salary as a unix sysadmin sans degree (or even college), there are lots of IT folks that make good money without a degree. It's just one of those fields I suppose.

This isn't a without a degree thread... this is a WITH a degree thread, i.e. to help me figure out what MAJOR I might want to switch to.

Sorry, I interpreted "non-conventional degree requiring jobs" the wrong way. As in "not a conventional degree requiring job", instead of "jobs requiring non-conventional degrees". My bad.

What are you good at? What do you like to do?

Even with a degree, don't count on doing well if you're not good at or don't enjoy your major.

I think this is the type of job you can start your own business with instead of having to be someone's right hand man.

I find myself spending gobs of time on cars, cars anddd well cars. If there was only something I could do at this school that would get me into that or did only that... I'd be a freaking deans lister.

They don't offer anything in the way of automotive design/engineering?

EDIT: Never mind, it looks like just MET.

If you're good at math, you might enjoy mechanical engineering. Not sure if Penn State has Automotive Engineering or Automotive Design majors, but there might be a way to craft something out of an ME degree that puts you into cars.

BTW - I went to Penn State too!

These majors fell under IST:

Information Sciences And Technology: Information Context: People, Organizations, And Society Option

Information Sciences And Technology: Information Systems: Design And Development Option

Information Sciences And Technology: Information Technology: Integration And Application Option

but I don't know what they REALLY consist of...

These ones are also IST and interested me:

Security And Risk Analysis: Social Factors And Risk Option

Security And Risk Analysis: Intelligence Analysis And Modeling Option

Security And Risk Analysis: Information And Cyber Security Option

I wonder however how good I would be at those things or if they would drive me nuts. I have OCD, I am extremely analytic and I think a TON... so maybe an analyst job would work for me, or it will drive me mad. Not sure
