What is the future of plasma?

Just saw this. Vizio is pulling out of Plasma (oh well) but now I see Pioneer is pulling the plug too.

Plasma FTW! Plasma's will be around for a long time until the organic screens prices drop further.

Pioneer killed themselves. The Kuro price points are ridiculous when compared to Panasonic's and even Sony's prices. I have the Panny 800u which is comparable to the current Kuro and falls short but just being slightly lighter in blacks yet is nearly $2,000 cheaper. $2,000 isn't worth marginally darker blacks, which is also how 90% of consumers felt as well.

The burn in days are gone. I haven't read of too many burnt out plasmas either. My Uncle bought 2 plasmas the year they were first offered at $10k a piece. He still has both and the picture still looks great.

Plasma's picture quality is unmatched, makes lcd displays look like shit. I got the 60" Pioneer in the living room, that thing is a beast, especially with blu-ray disk on.

LCD seems to be the future of tv's imo. Just like bluray replaced HD DVD

not surprised... LCD is the immediate future of TV's.

Wish DLP would stick around though. Best value and when calibrated by a pro, it will blow any LCD/plasma out of the water.

Everyone go out and look at a Sharp Aquas. Unbelievable picture and virtually no burn in. Highly recommend them.

I see LCDs being the future of TV as well, they are always coming in larger and larger sizes.

+1 On the Aquos, it's very cheap too IMO, i got my 52" for $1200 and 1080p Bluray just looks gorgeous on it, and browsing the internet is awesome too...

But you can't touch Plasma's picture quality, if you like to watch action stuff with lots of moving parts, Plasma will blow LCDs away. What i don't like about Plasma is, the damn thing is so heavy, my mom's first Plasma i had to hire 2 spanish guy to help me lift it up so i can mount it to the wall for her...with my LCD i can pick it up by myself no problem...

So many misconceptions about plasma.....

A Pioneer 50" is 70lbs & the 60 is about 115lbs if I remember correctly.

LCD will never have the pure picture quality of a plasma. DLP, are you kidding? I've seen the latest and greatest DLP, calibrated by a pro, and it can't touch my mid-line Panny plasma.

LCD will always have a problem with blacks. You simply can't get a pure black from an LCD and still get the desired brightness and contrast ratios, with today's technology. That's not to say that some day in the future an LCD will be as good as a plasma, but they still have a ways to go. I have both, and I'll take my plasmas any day.

Plasma for me.
LCD's just can't match yet.
I've had a (50") top of the line Panasonic plasma for 3 years now.
LCD's just aren't as sharp, the blacks are far superior on Plasma's and the biggest thing was angle of viewing.
LCD's often claim 160-180 degree viewing, yeah sure but with a major degrading of image quality.
With plasma, if you stand to the side, or are above or below the dead center level of the TV you don't lose image quality like you see in LCD's.

LCD's look very good when sitting dead center, but plasma's just look cleaner, crisper and deep blacks are blacks on plasma, not a charcoal black like on LCD's.

Never seen a burn in or "blown out" plasma either. Though I don't sit there and spend hours upon hours of watching a still photo or frozen image either.
