F1 4 Cylinder Turbo Engine is now official.

Can't find a french version of it but yeah, it is starting 2013.

FUCK THIS. F1 is not suppose to be about being green and not consuming fuel. It is suppose to be about, power, speed, engineering, pushing the limits of phyics.

Hmm...review your F1 history before jumping to conclusions. The turbo era had some of the most impressive machines pushing 1200hp...

also let us not forget

But now these engines will be cut down to damn near half the power figures of those beasts

I didn't see anything that limited horsepower. Just 1.6L, single turbo, 500bar gas injection, and 12k rpm max. I wouldn't underestimate engineers in F1.

Nevertheless, outright horsepower has never been a clear cut recipe for success. I've always taken a stance of deregulation in F1. Ideally they should set a fuel, a weight limit, tire compounds (none of this multiple compounds per race bs), and a budget, and let the teams run wild. But that will never happen lol

True but at the same time the cars as an entirety are so much more advanced than the previous turbo era that it won't slow them down that much from what they're at now.

Wouldn't be much of a formula if it was that deregulated. That's LM cars. But it would be pretty amazing to see what all the different teams could do. Maybe something a little more conditional. Like you can run wing elements that max out your downforce at ~4000lbs, but then your engine can only produce x amount of hp or something along those lines. That way we could see how the manufacturers think differently in terms of various strengths and weaknesses to make a car as fast as possible. But we can dream right?

Yes I agree I was a little sparse but I was just giving an idea. Give dimensional requirements, minimum weights, certain things to keep the "spirit" or "style" of F1 cars, but technologically let them run wild with whatever engine and aerodynamic setup.

@Bold: to me that's what the premier racing championship should entail. Cover this distance on this track as fast as you can, no matter how you do it

Either way the 4bangers will be interesting. I'll be watching, that's for sure

Yes, but I also missed the days of BMWs monster M10 based monster engines.

That..... was a hell of an accomplishment.
