State with the SLOWEST drivers...

Okay, so I have been in probably 80% of the states in this country, and last week I was in another for the first time.
This is the state of WISCONSIN.
And in my experience it has the SLOWEST drivers I have ever seen.
I don't think they ever drive over the speed limit, and often I found myself stuck behind people going 5-8 mph BELOW the speed limit.

Driving in Wisconsin is an act of frustration for how slow they drive, even if there is nobody in front of them of a mile or so! Argh.

In your experience which state do you think has the slowest drivers?

how about LA (los angeles, not louisiana, while realizing that L.A. is not a state)

you can drive for hours down there and never go faster than 20 mph

We can surely expand this to say all of California. The most populous cities are all just like L.A. The traffic in the Bay Area/Silicon Valley area is horrible. San Diego traffic is bad as well. I have lived in L.A. all my life and have driven manual for over 15 years. I recently opted for the Steptronic tranny.

The traffic was unbelieveable this past Memorial Day weekend *sigh*.

Alright, after living in the states for over six (6) years, here is what I think and why:

New York (city) - because you cannot drive fast in city traffic, even if you try to bump the vehicle in front of you (which they do often) to make your vehicle go faster.

Driving in traffic doesn't count. Because if that's the case then obviously the area with the most traffic wins. This should be based on people volunteerly driving slow with no impediments.

I have family in Wisconsin ...they are the slowest drivers around. Their speed limits are low on the highways around Milwaukee so they drive slower, they all drive like they haven't got a brain.

2nd worst imo - West Virginia drivers

Best drivers - MD, VA, DC...they know how to get movin on the highways.

Georgia was really bad, especially in Savannah and the south parts. Everything almost seemed in slow motion and it wasn't just the driving. I can't even recall how many times I was called a damn Yankee.

I forgot about Hawaii.
I've been there too and yes, they are on "Hawaiian time" when they drive too.

And as someone pointed out, you can't include traffic congestion as "slowest drivers" because a city like LA has mass traffic congestion, but when it is open 10-15 mph over the speed limit is common.

ever been to tucson, arizona. its population is close to 1 million and there is no highway from one side of town to another. the major road thru the entire city has a speed limit of 35 mph. ppl constantly drive 5 mph below the speed limit, and i have never seen so many ppl run red lights. to add to that nice cars are few and far between, and most are beat up junkers.

Texas.

Every time I enter a freeway people seem to not understand the meaning of acceleration. I was behind a guy who was doing 40 mph yesterday. I laid on the horn and shot over 2 lanes as soon as I had the chance.

Slow people are more of a danger to us who drive the speed limit.

Been around this country quite a bit...

With respect to Wisconsin, yeah, it's a bit slower there but you don't have the amount of crazy-ass drivers that you get in other places. Minnesota is fairly slow but they know how to drive on the rural interstates, only in the left lanes to pass and then they're back in the right lane. Good stuff.

Florida is really slow. Upstate New York is slow on the interstates, the state cops will apparently pull you over at 57 or something stupid like that. Heck, even Cali is a bit slow compared to here, here in the Chicago are 80 is *common* on the tollways, 90 isn't unusual at all.

Hawaii takes the cake though, but that's totally cool and a change of pace that I really and truly enjoy when I'm out there. "Drive with aloha" indeed.

That's not uncommon for me, I hardly ever get passed. It's prolly more because no one is taught how to keep a constant speed anymore.

Ohio drivers can be bad depending on the city you're in. Although all of Ohio has a problem with cruising in the far left lane doing the speed limit and won't move for nothing. People get on the freeway and immediately cut the 2-3 lanes straight to the fast lane and go 60, pretty comical. Other then sitting in the fast lane Ohio drivers are nuts, the state troopers are actually out in force these past 2 months to stop the aggressive driving
